The Cube Stereo One44 C:62 Pro is selling extremely well. Could this be due to its particularly good price-performance ratio? We took the almost 3300 euro carbon full-suspension bike from Cube out on the trails to find out. The BIKE test shows what the Cube Stereo trail bike is really made of.

As a brand, Cube is particularly popular in Germany. Experience has shown that the bikes from the Upper Palatinate region score highly with their low weight and attractive price. We wanted to find out whether the riding characteristics are also worth a recommendation in an extensive price-performance comparison.

As a trail bike, the Cube with 140 millimetres of travel has to convince both uphill and downhill. How well does the Cube Stereo One44 C:62 Pro for 3299 euros in laboratory and practical tests?

The Cube Stereo One44 C:62 Pro on test: How the carbon trail bike rides

Among specialist brands, Cube is usually a hot tip for high-performance bikes at a good price. At first glance, the Stereo One44 is no exception: with its slim carbon frame, the weight remains under 13 kilos. Nevertheless, there is no lack of high-quality details, such as a storage compartment in the down tube and a tool mount on the top tube. The geometry can even be fine-tuned using a flip chip. The Cube rolls along refreshingly easily. In addition to the low weight, this is due to the low rolling resistance of the narrow Maxxis Foreskaster tyres. The cosy, upright riding position and the only slightly bobbing suspension also make the One44 ideal as a touring bike.

The Cube likes to be playful on the trail. With a short rear end and a wheelbase of the tight variety, manuals and bunny hops are a breeze. Tight bends also suit the Stereo. On easy flow trails, the good-natured handling provides a good portion of riding fun.

The Cube Stereo One44 C:62 Pro: More playmate than ballerina

On rough, fast descents, however, the other side of the coin becomes apparent. The lively Cube is not as plush as other bikes in the same travel class. This is largely due to the less lively Rockshox Pike RC, which is even a class below the affordable Select series. But the rear suspension also lacks comfort. Even over rough gravel, the fork and shock are barely able to absorb fine impacts. In addition to the dull suspension, the Magura brakes have a soft pressure point. This combination quickly leads to fatigue on root trails. Unfortunately, the equipment wastes a lot of potential of the actually good frame with successful geometry.

Conclusion on the test of the Cube Stereo One44 C:62 Pro

The Cube Stereo One44 is a good deal for touring fans. It is wonderfully light, beautifully manoeuvrable and makes fast progress. On rough trails, however, you get the feeling that Cube has made savings in the wrong place, namely the lack of energy in the suspension. - Jan Timmermann, BIKE test editor
