Now the wait is over. The new Lapierre E-Zesty comes exclusively in 29 inches, with playful geometry and two equipment variants: E-Zesty AM LTD and E-Zesty AM 9.4. Read all about the new Light E-MTB with Fazua drive in this article.
Let's take a quick trip back to 2018 and take a rough look at the features of the E-Zesty on. The first light e-MTB was equipped with Fazua's Ride 50 drive and had a suspension travel of 150 millimetres with 27.5-inch wheels. A full carbon frame reduced the weight.
The successor offers some new features, but remains true to the DNA of the pioneer, at least in terms of design. However, the suspension travel of the new Lapierre E-Zesty has been shortened to 140 instead of 150 millimetres, while the wheels have been increased to 29 inches. However, neither of these should detract from the ride feel of the E-Zesty. Keyword riding feel. With 72 per cent more battery capacity, the new Lapierre e-bike should give you a much longer ride. Instead of 250 Wh, the battery now offers 430 watt hours, but can no longer be removed from the frame. A clear break with the 2-in-1 concept of its predecessor, where even the motor was removable and only the gearbox remained in the frame.
The compact drive unit now provides the propulsion. Fazua Ride 60 drive. For a light motor, it is quite powerful with 60 Newton metres and up to 450 watts of power and can be controlled and adjusted via app. The frame has been completely redesigned and the motor and battery unit have been fully integrated, as have the cables and brake hoses - resulting in a sleek and discreet look.
As with the original Lapierre E-Zesty, the frame of the new bike is made entirely of carbon, with the exception of the shock linkage. In size M, Lapierre promises a frame weight of around 2630 grams. A good value for an E-Fully. The new E-Zesty is available in four sizes (S, M, L, XL). In addition to the main frame, the chainstays also grow with the sizes. In sizes S and M, they measure 435 millimetres, while L and XL have 440 and 445 millimetres respectively, for a balanced weight distribution.
The reach is now a long 480 millimetres in size L. For a better uphill riding position, the seat angle of the E-Zesty is 77 degrees steeper than its predecessor and the bottom bracket is 30 millimetres below the axle of the wheels. This should result in more riding stability and better cornering.
Lapierre has designed the E-Zesty as a light and playful trail bike. The reduced suspension travel of 140 millimetres is intended to ensure more progressive handling and reduce bobbing. Compared to its predecessor, the larger wheels ensure improved rollover behaviour. If you like it a little more manoeuvrable, the E-Zesty can be adapted to a small 27.5-inch rear wheel using a flipchip. The shock sits further down in the seat tube, but is now protected by a longer mudguard. The revised four-bar rear triangle should provide even better shock sensitivity and control when pedalling.
The new E-Zesty is equipped with a very light and compact Fazua Ride 60 drive unit, which should only have a minor impact on inertia due to its installation position close to the ground. The new 430 Wh battery is permanently installed and does not weigh too much at 2.3 kilograms. The e-bike gets even more range with a range extender with 210 watt hours, which can be optionally installed on the down tube and should be available from autumn.
The new Fazua Ride 60 system is 400 grams lighter than the old system and should enable a greater range thanks to the larger battery. With 60 Newton metres and up to 450 watts of peak power, the Fazua e-bike motor also delivers a lot of power for a light drive. With the Fazua smartphone app, the motor settings can be customised to suit individual preferences. The battery level can be read off the top tube. The charge level indicator also includes a USB-C port for charging GPS devices or smartphones. The motor also offers three different support modes: Breeze, River and Rocket, which can be controlled via a remote on the handlebars.
