Ibis is expanding its portfolio with an aluminium version of the popular Ripley trail bike. The new Ripley AF (Aluminium Frame) is designed to transfer the proven riding characteristics of the carbon model into a robust and affordable package. With 130 mm suspension travel at the rear and 140 mm at the fork, the bike is positioned in the trail segment.
According to the manufacturer, the geometry of the Ripley AF is designed for versatility. A flat steering angle of 64.9 degrees should ensure stability at higher speeds, while the steep seat angle should enable an efficient riding position when climbing. The seat angles vary depending on the frame size to ensure an optimum position for different body sizes. Ibis promises agile and responsive handling on technical trails without compromising on high-speed stability.
The Ripley AF relies on the proven DW-Link rear suspension system, which is known for its efficient power transmission and good response behaviour. In combination with the 130 mm travel at the rear and 140 mm at the front, the bike should be able to ride well above its travel class. The rear suspension is equipped with a Rockshox Deluxe shock and is also approved for coil shocks. This offers tuning options for riders who prefer a coil rear.
The aluminium frame of the Ripley AF is designed for durability and suitability for everyday use. It offers space for tyres up to 2.5 inches wide. Practical features such as an ISCG05 mount for chain guides, a 73 mm BSA bottom bracket shell and internal cable routing with revised cable ports are designed to make assembly and maintenance easier. Particularly noteworthy is the integrated storage compartment in the down tube, which is equipped with two supplied Ibis bags and offers space for tools and snacks.
The Ripley AF is equipped with 29-inch wheels at the front and rear as standard. For riders who prefer a mullet configuration, the frame offers the option of fitting a 27.5-inch rear wheel via flip chips on the rear triangle. This enables customisation of the riding characteristics. The frame is available in five sizes from S to XL and thus covers body sizes from around 1.52 m to 2.01 m. All frame sizes offer space for 750 millilitre water bottles.
Ibis offers the Ripley AF in various equipment variants. The complete bikes start at a price of 4,698 euros. For riders who want to build their own bike, the frame including shock is available for €2,698. This positions the Ripley AF well below its carbon counterpart in terms of price and makes the typical Ibis riding characteristics accessible to a wider audience.
Ibis underlines its confidence in the quality of the aluminium frame with a lifetime guarantee. This applies to both the frame itself and the bearings used.
The bikes are expected to be available in Germany from September.
