As an all-mountain bike with an aluminium frame and DW-Link suspension, the new Ibis Ripmo AF V2 primarily aims to defuse steep descents and difficult terrain. However, the 160/150 mm bike also offers excellent climbing characteristics.

Ibis presents us with another aluminium model. The Ibis Ripmo AF V2 is based on an aluminium frame and, according to the manufacturer, should offer the same performance as its carbon counterpart, but at a lower price. With 160 mm travel at the front and 150 mm at the rear, Ibis has positioned the bike in the all-mountain to enduro segment, but at the same time promises good climbing characteristics thanks to the proven DW-Link suspension.

Frame and geometry

The frame of the Ibis Ripmo AF V2 is made entirely from aluminium and is designed to offer a high level of rigidity while remaining reasonably light. Ibis relies on a progressive geometry with a flat steering angle of 64.5 degrees, which should ensure stability at high speeds and on steep terrain. The seat angles vary depending on the frame size to ensure an optimum riding position for different body sizes. The bike is available in five sizes from S to XL, covering heights from around 152 cm to 201 cm.

Chassis and wheels

The centrepiece of the chassis is the DW-Link rear suspension with 150 mm travel. This is designed to combine efficient power transmission when pedalling with sensitive response behaviour. A Rockshox Super Deluxe shock is used, which, according to Ibis, has been specially adapted to the kinematics of the frame. The fork offers 160 mm travel. The Ripmo AF V2 is primarily designed for 29-inch wheels, but also offers the option of mounting a 27.5-inch rear wheel thanks to the flip-chip technology. This allows the riding characteristics to be customised.

Equipment and variants

Ibis offers the Ripmo AF V2 in various equipment variants, with the entry-level variant starting at €4,398. All models have internal cable routing for a tidy look and easy maintenance. A special feature is the integrated storage compartment in the frame, which is equipped with two special pockets. This allows riders to stow tools, spare inner tubes or snacks directly in the frame. The tyre clearance is generous and allows tyres up to 2.5 inches wide to be fitted.

Area of application and target group

The Ripmo AF V2 is aimed at all riders who are looking for a robust and versatile bike. The combination of downhill-orientated geometry and efficient rear suspension should make it suitable for both long tours and demanding descents. Ibis emphasises that despite its downhill orientation, the bike also has good climbing characteristics, which should make it a versatile all-rounder.

Availability and prices

Ibis plans to deliver the Ripmo AF V2 in Germany from September. Prices for complete bikes start at 4,398 euros, while the frame including shock will be available for 2,698 euros. All frames come with a lifetime warranty as well as a lifetime warranty on the bearings.
