The engineers at Focus have been hard at work. They have not only developed the Jam for the 2021 season relaunched. There is even a completely new model in the mountain bike portfolio this year: the Focus Thron.
The new MTB fully with 29-inch wheels, 130 millimetres of suspension travel and a low price is intended to offer an attractive entry into the fully segment, especially for beginners. Similar to the Focus in recent years with the Vice has made. Visually, the newcomer is very reminiscent of its big brother, the Jam. The developers have opted for aluminium for the frame material. According to the manufacturer, the frame should weigh 3.5 kilos. The geometry is not too extreme: This means that even beginners without sophisticated riding technique should be able to ride the bike off-road without any problems. Focus specifies a moderate head angle of 66.5 degrees and a reach of 470 millimetres in size L. Unlike the Jam, there is no flip chip for geometry adjustment.
For just 2199 euros, you can hit the trails on the Throne. The entry-level model shifts with Shimano's 1x12 Deore groupset, while Rockshox suspension with Recon Silver fork and Deluxe Select shock provide the necessary comfort. Focus also offers the Thron with mudguards, pannier rack and lights for commuters and bikers who also want to use their bike on a daily basis. However, if you opt for this upgrade, you will have to compromise on the equipment: The Rockshox fork gives way to a cheaper model from SR Suntour, and the twelve-speed drivetrain is replaced by an eleven-speed drivetrain. The more expensive Thron 6.9 also marks the upper end of the model range at 2499 euros and relies on Fox performance suspension. Shifting is handled by Shimano's XT groupset. According to the manufacturer, the weight is 15.5 kilos.
All models are available in frame sizes S, M, L and XL and are equipped with a modern Vario seat post. Also included: a frame bag for a mini-tool, food or a spare inner tube, which can be easily screwed to the inside of the front frame triangle.
