The news from Punta Ala comes as a bit of a surprise and at short notice, but for those who don't yet have a fixed destination for the Easter holidays, it may be a hit: the Punta Ala campsite will not officially open its doors until 23 May, but there will be a kind of pre-opening during the German Easter holidays from 18 April to 3 May.
Anyone who has ever been to Punta Ala knows that this campsite is in an almost perfect location. The pitches are not a battery of motorhomes close together, but you sleep idyllically in the forest. The beach is just 100 metres away. Before the tour, you meet for an espresso in the bar in the morning, then head straight into the hinterland on your bike, where the locals have now created a dense network of single trails.
A spot where you can let off steam all day long. At least until sunset, Aperol Sprizz and pizza call you back to the beach. A truly perfect place for trail and motorhome lovers - the only problem: this place has long since ceased to be an insider tip. And you can usually tell by looking at the trails in early summer. Braking ribs, potholes and shortcuts are then already very unpleasant on the chassis and nerves.
So be quick and secure one of the 400 campervan pitches (from 20 euros per night) or 170 tent pitches (from 15 euros per night) over Easter and enjoy virgin trails. The Punta Ala Trail Centre team has just prepared the trail network together with the guys and girls from Maremma Experience, Bagnoli Bike and Bibo Wild Trails. Bends have been fine-tuned, jumps optimised and rocks implanted for even more technical riding fun.
In the Bandite di Scarlino area, the "301" and "Carbonai" trails have been completely overhauled and finally reopened. At Cala Violina, the "Api" and "Carlito's" lines have been given a facelift and the 1.9-kilometre-long Torretta has not only been completely revamped, but its entrance at Poggio La Guardia has also been relocated into the forest.
In addition to trail maintenance, the surrounding service package is to be further expanded this year, with guided tours, a shuttle service, bike hire and a pump track. Brand new this year: anyone renting a bike at the Punta Ala Trail Centre will be given access to the shop's Komoot Premium profile, giving them access to the best trails in the region. Even without a guide.
No stopwatch, no winners, no trails - just a gravel ride together on leisurely gravel roads through the coastal landscape. An event that attracted 400 participants last year. With registration.
It is the world's largest bikepacking event with a route of 430 kilometres and 5300 metres of altitude difference through the whole of Tuscany. The starting point this year is Campiglia Marittima, and participants (gravel and MTB) can choose their own starting day from 21-23 May. This is also a "no-race" format: there is no timekeeping, participants are self-catering with a GPS track provided and decide for themselves when and where they eat and sleep.
The initiatives "Bike.Boobs" and "WOM - Women on Mission" will be offering two events especially for women at the Punta Ala Trail Centre for the first time this year. The programme includes guided tours, workshops and yoga at sunset for a long weekend.
