Livigno, at an altitude of 1,816 metres, has established itself as a bike destination in the Alps in recent years. The town is now bundling its offerings under a common brand: "Livigno | 1816 Bike Zone" will in future stand for the entire network of trails, infrastructure and services.
Livigno is not only exciting for bike park fans and single trail hunters, but also for racing cyclists.
According to the tourism association, the concept comprises more than 3,500 kilometres of GPS-mapped routes, ranging from valley routes to Alpine pass tours. The altitude - which is also reflected in the brand name - plays a dual role: as a geographical feature and as a training location for ambitious cyclists.
Livigno is also investing in promoting young talent and cooperating with athletes and professional associations. The coming years will show how sustainable this strategy will be.
Three officially certified Strava segments are now available: the climb to Passo d'Eira, the final section of the 2024 Giro d'Italia stage and the ascent to Passo Forcola. Riders can compare their times directly with the international community. An open challenge is planned on these routes between the end of June and July.
The bike season starts in stages: The Mottolino Bikepark opens on 13 June, followed by the Carosello Flowtrails a week later on 20 June. The Sitas cable cars will open on 1 July. The Bike Skill Centre, a training area for different skill levels, will open at the same time.
The Granfondo Livigno Alè, an established racing bike event with international participation, also takes place on 27 June.
Alongside the new umbrella brand, Livigno is applying to host the IMBA European MTB Summit, the central industry meeting of the International Mountain Bicycling Association in Europe. It remains to be seen whether the bid will be successful.
With the combined marketing strategy, Livigno is trying to position itself more clearly in the competition of Alpine bike destinations - between established giants such as Finale Ligure or the Dolomite regions.
