On Saturday, 9 July 2022, our home race took place in Bayreuth as part of the Cube Cup. At the same time, the city champion was crowned in the respective classes and in the men's and women's overall. The BIKE Junior Team simply had to be at the start, especially as there was a break in the national junior classification this weekend.
It was the first time that we had to start in the grounds of the former State Garden Show and not at our usual training grounds in the Saas or at the venerable Festspielhaus. The routes were therefore very different to what we were used to, but still challenging and demanding for all classes. It was also very spectator-friendly, as the riders were almost always in view. For example, we went through a pump track where we also had to climb a steep run-up hill, which became more difficult from lap to lap. Our trainer Philipp had also incorporated numerous other technical finesses.
I got off to a very good start and was therefore quite quickly in the lead of all the women from U17 upwards. After I pulled away, I finally rode my laps alone and crossed the finish line first. As I not only won in my age group, but was also the fastest woman, I am now the Bayreuth city champion and was able to take the challenge trophy home with me.
With this success behind me, I'm looking forward to the national young talent scouting in Wombach.
The Baden-Württemberg Championships took place in Reudern on Saturday. The course was very fast because there were hardly any hills or technical sections. For this reason, I decided to ride a hardtail on this course.
Due to an infection and a Very weak performance in WeißenfelsI wasn't quite sure what level I would be able to ride at on Saturday.
So I tried not to accelerate too much at the start and to settle into the race first. Nevertheless, the first lap was very fast because all the riders were trying to get to the front. I stayed calm and watched the battles for the lead from the centre of the first group, which consisted of about 8 riders.
Lap after lap, there were fewer and fewer riders at the front until it was just me and two others left. My two fellow riders put in a lot of attacks, which ultimately didn't help and we started the fifth and final lap as a threesome. Everything remained calm until shortly before the descent. I stepped up the pace on the descent and then led until the finish line.
Nevertheless, I realise that I'm still not completely recovered from the infection and hope that I'll be back in top form at the start in Wombach.
After a miserable Le Mans start, I was able to make good progress in the start loop and was well placed in the top five. On the first lap I had some problems on the uphill stone field, had to click off and dismount, then the gap to the other girls was there. However, I was able to close the gap again on the very long climb and lined up at the back.
We went into the last lap in a neck-and-neck race, all still close together. The hill worked in my favour on Saturday and the three of us were able to pull away from the rest. After a slalom on the sports field, I attacked and was able to open up a gap. All-in on the last few metres. It was enough for me to win and thus the Baden-Württemberg title! I'm very happy with my performance and also pleased about Dennis' victory! Now it's time to train well again and then go for it in Wombach!
