When the new administrative regulation on the Bavarian Nature Conservation Act came into force in December 2020, cycling associations such as the DIMB feared a Wave of prohibition signs for mountain bikers. This is because the new regulation is intended to create an "objective determination of drivability". In practice, this means that authorities and landowners can enforce trail closures more easily. If MTB trails are closed, this must be signposted accordingly. The crux of the matter is that not only the lower and higher nature conservation authorities are authorised to put up prohibition signs, but also the landowners themselves. The first new prohibition signs have already popped up in the Munich area, but according to the DIMB and DAV, things are still quiet in the Alpine regions.
To work together with the DIMB To get an overview of new bike bans and to see how the new administrative regulation is being implemented on Bavarian trails, we need your help. Send us photos of new prohibition signs that you notice on the trails in the neighbourhood or on tours. We would also be happy to receive additional pictures of the trail. Either as e-mail with a photo and a brief description of the location to leseraktion@bike-magazin.de. Or posts the photos with the hashtag #freetrailsbayern in the social networks.
