And not just because of the look, but also because of the price. Just under 300 euros is a lot of money for utility shoes that are constantly exposed to dirt and moisture in tough everyday mountain bike use. Fizik justifies the price with the innovative material concept and the high quality. The Fizik Vento Ferox have an extremely light, tear-resistant synthetic skin that moulds comfortably to the foot and keeps the weight to a minimum. Wearing comfort is optimised by two separately functioning adjustment systems: The Velcro strap provides support on the instep, while the Boa fastener takes care of the forefoot. The Vento Ferox is extremely comfortable and the power transmission in these MTB shoes is excellent thanks to the stiff carbon sole.
Unfortunately, the white rubber of the sole showed clear signs of wear after the first few sliding passages. This also irritated us in view of the high price. A black model with a black sole, which is also available, proved to be more resistant. Our conclusion after around 2000 kilometres of testing, including marathon use: great, comfortable racing shoes, but it's better to keep your feet on the pedals.
Plus: Exclusive, elegant look; perfect fitting system; good power transmission; robust synthetic skin, very comfortable
Minus: Sole susceptible to wear; only recommended to a limited extent for tours with pushing passages; high price
