In the portfolio of Swiss manufacturer BMC, the Teammachine SLR 01 marks the endurance model trimmed for low weight for epic bike marathons and sporty Ketter adventures. The Teammachine SLR 01 is currently available in four versions with different features. In the top version SLR 01 ONE with either Shimano's Dura-Ace equipment or the SRAM components of the Red AXS groupset, the manufacturer specifies the complete bike weight at 6.6 kilograms - which is lighter than the UCI (International Cycling Union) allows for road races (6.8 kilograms).
Now BMC has launched a new model based on the cooperation of three Swiss institutions: BMC, wheel manufacturer DT Swiss and Andermatt Tourism present the Teammachine SLR 01 VAR0 - in their own words, the "canvas whose frame is adorned with the iconic peaks of Andermatt". At BMC, the abbreviation VAR0 stands for "Variant 0", i.e. an unpainted frame that can be customised. Andermatt is located in the Ursental valley in the Swiss canton of Uri. The legendary Alpine passes of Oberalp, Furka and Gotthard are on the doorstep, so to speak, and the Grimsel and Susten passes are within easy reach. The village is also the starting point of the legendary Alpine Brevet.
DT Swiss is contributing the new ARC 1100 Spline 38 CS wheels with carbon spokes for the Alpine speedster. The aerodynamically optimised rim with a height of 38 millimetres is said to be particularly light thanks to the company's own Pure Carbon technology. The Swiss company advertises a total weight of just 1174 grams for the wheelset (without tyres). The front wheel has just 18 spokes in a radial arrangement, while the rear wheel has 24 spokes in a 2:1 configuration with a two-cross pattern.
The manufacturer did not provide any information on the availability and price of the special model. The top models of the SLR 01 ONE mentioned above each cost just under 13,000 euros.
