Alma Wiggberg (23) is one of the very best female slopestyle riders around. The Swedish rider has just won the RB District Ride in the Netherlands. Here she answers our Q&A.

Give everything a go – why not? That’s exactly what Alma Wiggberg did. Enduro, downhill, pump track, slopestyle – the Swede tried her hand at the full spectrum of mountain biking and showed right from the start that she’s got what it takes. At just 18 years old, she bagged two national championship titles in 2021 – in pump track and enduro. Not bad for a start.

Then came the focus. Freeride. And with that focus came the breakthrough: in 2021, she delivered a performance at the Audi Nines that caught the scene’s attention. In 2022, she secured a podium finish at Crankworx Whistler – and suddenly the whole cycling world knew who Alma Wiggberg was.

2022 was definitely her year. Specialized recruited her into its Global Athlete Programme – the first female mountain bike freerider ever to be selected. She was also signed by the talent agency Rasoulution, where she was now able to count Olympian Nikita Ducarroz as a team-mate. Not bad for someone who had only just really got started.

The results spoke for themselves: second place at the Zurich Dirt Contest, then Crankworx Whistler – and that’s where she made history. The first 360 by a woman in Speed & Style, plus a silver medal. Together with Michaela Hájková, she was named “Red Bull Rookie of the Year”, thereby securing a wildcard place at the first Crankworx Slopestyle event in 2023.

And then, in 2026, another milestone: at the legendary Red Bull District Ride in Groningen, the urban slopestyle event introduced a women’s competition for the first time – and Wiggberg? She won it straight away, of course. Because that’s just how it goes with her.

Alma, give us a high five

Born in South Baden, Laurin Lehner is, by his own admission, a lousy racer. Maybe that's why he is fascinated by creative, playful biking. What counts for him is not how fast you get from A to B, but what happens in between. Lehner writes reports, interviews scene celebrities and tests products and bikes - preferably those with a lot of suspension travel.
