After a long hiatus in the e-MTB segment, Storck is making a spectacular comeback: the new e:drenalin.3 M2S combines a weight starting from 19.9 kilograms with an 800 Wh battery and the Avinox M2S high-performance motor.
Anyone who has followed Storck’s recent history in the e-MTB sector will know that the Idstein-based manufacturer has always been a leader when it comes to lightweight construction. Many Storck e-MTBs, such as the e:drenalin.2 gts In previous tests, they impressed with their exceptionally low weights. However, it was the drive technology that had recently come under increasing pressure. Motors such as the Shimano EP8 were long regarded as a solid foundation, but have recently struggled to keep up in the increasingly competitive market. By switching to the Avinox M2S, Storck is responding decisively and, with the third generation of the e:drenalin, is once again presenting an e-MTB that is right at the cutting edge.
Avinox M2S motor: 150 Nm and up to 1,300 watts
It goes without saying: the star of the bike is the new drive system, and the M2S certainly lives up to its ambitions. In the e:drenalin.3, the motor delivers the 130 Newton-metres of torque typical of the combination with the 800 battery, which rises to up to 150 Nm in Boost mode and peaks at up to 1,300 watts.
This is offset by a system weight that is remarkable for this performance class: in its lightest configuration, the e:drenalin.3 M2S is said to weigh from 19.9 kilograms. This would put the bike on a par with the lightest full-power bikes on the market such as the Amflow PL and the Cannondale Moterra SL, as well as the incredibly lightweight new Raymon Tarok. At the same time, the battery has a capacity of 800 Wh, marking a record high in Storck’s history.
Carbon frame and mullet wheel configuration
The e:drenalin.3 M2S is built around a frame made entirely of carbon – including the shock mount. The frame design aims to combine minimal weight with high stiffness. When it comes to wheel size, Storck has opted for the ‘mullet’ set-up: 29-inch at the front, 27.5-inch at the rear.
Suspension: FOX 36 and Float X2 in Kashima
The suspension on the e:drenalin.3 M2S is designed specifically for trail riding. At the front is a FOX 36 Float Performance fork with 170 mm of travel, whilst at the rear there is a FOX Float X2 shock, also offering 170 mm of travel. Both components are fitted with the high-quality Factory version featuring a Kashima coating. Interestingly, Storck has opted against the 38mm fork from Fox, presumably to save a bit of weight with the 36mm version. The first sample bike is fitted with lightweight cross-country tyres from Schwalbe. You’d certainly need to upgrade to more robust tyres to do justice to the bike’s suspension capabilities.
Gear system: SRAM or Shimano – both high-end
Storck offers several gear system configurations. On the SRAM side, the SRAM GX Eagle and the SRAM XX Eagle SL Transmission are available. Alternatively, Shimano XT, Shimano XT Di2 and Shimano XTR Di2 are available. The spec is rounded off by a wireless dropper post. It remains to be seen whether the drivetrains, which are designed entirely for lightweight performance, will be able to cope with the high power of the Avinox system in the long term. Officially, for example, SRAM recommends the lightweight SL Transmission only for bikes without a motor – classic Transmission derailleurs or Shimano’s LinkGlide drivetrains would have been the obvious choice.
Prices and availability
According to Storck, the e:drenalin.3 M2S starts at a very reasonable RRP of 6,999 euros. A special Launch Edition is available to mark the launch. The bike is available in sizes S, M and L with reach values ranging from 440 to 490 millimetres. The geometry, with a 64-degree head angle and a 77-degree seat angle, looks modern at first glance; 440-millimetre chainstays should make the handling agile, but combined with the Avinox Power, they could result in a significant tendency to wheelie when riding uphill. The stack – that is, the front height – is relatively low.
