For years, Carinthian Stefan Müller has been running riding technique courses for children and teenagers. They’ve been so successful that he’s turned it into his full-time job. That’s why he knows that for the kids on his courses, it’s not just about riding safely. What’s even more important to them is their style on the bike. They want to learn skills that are TikTok-worthy. So Stefan doesn’t just stick to cornering techniques and jump exercises; he also shows them the best way to capture their own moves on camera.
These riding technique courses take place across Carinthia, but this summer Stefan Müller will also be running two weekend courses at Turracher Höhe in the Carinthian Nockberge Mountains – which has only just reopened – and they’re free of charge. The trails on the high plateau have also just been completely refurbished and extended for this purpose.
The highlight is now the almost six-kilometre-long “Kornock Flowtrail”, which pulses through the meadow-lined slopes like a main artery from an altitude of 2,193 metres: bends, undulations, drops and boardwalks – rideable for all skill levels except at two points. However, if you take one of the nine side trails, the difficulty level can be increased to S4 (Jumpline).
All the trails eventually lead to the valley station of the Kornockbahn, where there’s also a practice course for kids. And as the Nockberge are generally quite lovely, with their distinctive Swiss stone pine forests and panoramic lake views, trails for mountain bikers and e-bikers have also been signposted throughout the area. A trip to the Nockberge is therefore well worth it. But especially on these two weekends:
Riding technique expert Stefan Müller kicks off his two-day weekend courses in classic style with exercises on the Kornock Flow Trail’s hairpin bends, before moving on to the side trails for some fine-tuning, of course. This is followed by a workshop covering the most important bike repairs. Skills that every proper cyclist simply has to master.
On the second day of the course, there’ll be plenty of riding again, but also filming and photography. The pro will reveal how you and your mates can capture the skills you’ve just learnt in the most stylish way possible for those back home – using a mobile phone and a helmet camera.
