With the Stamp Trail Speed Lace Seal, Crankbrothers is expanding its new weatherproof range with a trail shoe designed specifically for flat pedals. The design combines a waterproof membrane, a wraparound ankle cuff and a new rubber compound for wet conditions. We’ve got all the key details.
Whilst clip-in pedal riders can now choose from a wide range of winter and bad-weather shoes, the choice for flat-pedal riders is still considerably more limited. However, Crankbrothers is now targeting this group with the new Stamp Trail Speed Lace Seal.
The Stamp takes its key feature directly from the new Mallet Trail Speed Lace Seal.
The all-round seal cuff is designed to prevent water, mud or snow from entering the shoe via the shaft opening. This is where the biggest weakness of traditional MTB shoes lies, particularly on autumnal trails or during long rides in the rain.
The system is complemented by a waterproof membrane and moisture-repellent inner materials, which are designed to dry particularly quickly after a ride.
Unlike the Mallet, the Stamp focuses on maximum grip on flat pedals. The specially developed Stamp Match outsole is designed to create the most stable connection possible between the shoe and the pedal. The aim during development was to achieve a combination of excellent grip on the pedal and sufficient freedom of movement for technical trail sections.
Especially in the off-season, you often have to dismount and push your bike through tricky sections on slippery trails more frequently than during the dry summer months. That’s why the Stamp Trail Speed Lace Seal also features the new HYDRO rubber compound. It’s designed to provide extra grip, particularly on wet rocks, roots and muddy climbs.
A reinforced toe area also protects against contact with stones and impacts.
With the Stamp Trail Speed Lace Seal, Crankbrothers is clearly targeting riders who still ride their bikes regularly in November, December or January. However, unlike a thickly lined winter shoe, this model is designed to still offer the rider a direct feel on the pedal and good feedback from the ground. Not a bad set-up for rides over slippery rocks and damp roots.
The new Stamp Trail Speed Lace Seal is likely to appeal particularly to cyclists who ride on flat pedals all year round and are looking for an alternative to bulky winter boots.
