The frame design of the Purevue was specially developed for use with open face helmets. It is intended to optimise airflow and at the same time offer an extended field of vision. Ryan Van Noy, Senior Designer at Fox Racing, explains the development approach: "As with most design projects at Fox, we took a unique, authentic approach to trail-specific goggles. The Purevue was developed from the requirements of the gravity sector and the preference of riders to wear a goggle for more safety and field of vision. It was specifically designed for trail riding experiences." The increased airflow combined with the seamless fit for an open face helmet like the Fox Speedframe should lead to more confidence on the bike.
The Purevue Vivid variant is designed to offer high-contrast vision in challenging lighting situations. This includes scenarios such as dappled light in forests, morning fog in valleys or rapid transitions between shadow and sunlight. According to the manufacturer, the lens technology blocks the light spectrum that is responsible for flat light conditions. This should enable bikers to recognise the terrain more clearly. Fox Racing plans to offer the Vivid technology in other goggle models such as Vue, Airspace and Main from autumn 2024.
The Purevue goggle comes with a carrying case, two high-quality polycarbonate lenses and several nose pads for customising the fit. The lenses are a clear lens and a tinted version, which is available in grey/black, gold/black mirrored or green/50th Anniversary, depending on the model. Additional replacement lenses in Vivid, mirrored/gold, grey and clear can be purchased separately.
Fox Racing offers the Purevue goggle in various price categories. The basic model starts at a recommended retail price of 119.99 euros. The version with Vivid lens technology is available for 149.99 euros. The goggles can be purchased via the official Fox Racing website, in the brand's flagship stores and from participating dealers and sales partners worldwide (>> like z. e.g. here) can be obtained.
The idea is clever because normal goggles are very hot and rather "too much" for trail use. With the Purevue, Fox wants to create a middle ground. And they have succeeded. The Purevue is more airy than a conventional goggle, although the goggle feeling is already there. The good ventilation works.
The glasses are open at the bottom. A lot of air gets in, but sometimes clumps of dirt and dust also swirl in. You have to realise that the Fox-Zwitter is not as tight as a conventional goggle. We liked the concept.
The style is controversial: Half-shell with goggles. Many find the look silly. We don't, we like the more aggressive look. The Fox Purevue is not a bargain, but the workmanship is high quality and the scope of delivery is generous. In short: not a must-have, but a nice-to-have.
