With the Redux Power Wool Thermal Jacket Santini takes a slightly different approach to many traditional weather jerseys. Rather than relying solely on technical synthetic fibres, the Italian manufacturer combines Polartec Power Wool with windproof panels across the chest.
The blend of merino wool and synthetic fibres is designed to combine the best of both worlds: natural temperature regulation, high breathability and quick-drying properties, whilst also offering good durability. Santini recommends this model for temperatures between 5 and 15 degrees Celsius.
The Santini’s greatest strength lies in its comfort. With a top score of 1.1 for fit and comfort, the Thermo Jacket sets the benchmark amongst the products tested.
The fabric feels pleasantly soft against the skin and remains comfortable even during prolonged periods of exertion. Merino wool really comes into its own on long MTB rides or during long days in the saddle. The jersey keeps you reliably warm without feeling stiff or restrictive.
The fit is standard. With sizes ranging from 2XS to 3XL, Santini covers a wide range. The cut is close-fitting without restricting movement at the shoulders and arms.
In terms of weather protection, the Santini scores 2.0. The windproof inserts significantly reduce the sensation of cold around the chest and enhance comfort in a cold headwind.
The fabric also offers reliable protection against splashes and brief showers. However, the Thermo Jacket is not designed for longer journeys in the rain. In such cases, a traditional rain jacket remains the better choice.
The Santini really comes into its own in cool temperatures and under varying levels of exertion, when breathability and temperature regulation are more important than maximum protection from the elements.
In terms of features and functionality, this model also scores 2.0. The silicone waistband ensures a secure fit, whilst the generous use of reflective material improves visibility in low-light conditions.
The three rear pockets, each with an internal elasticated band, are modelled on the classic cycling jersey design and offer ample storage space for food, tools or extra layers of clothing.
In addition, Santini uses bonded cuffs and hems, which reduce pressure points and ensure a neat finish.
Weighing 380 grams in size L, the Redux Power Wool Thermo Jacket is one of the heaviest models in the test. Consequently, its score for weight and pack size – 3.5 – is significantly lower than in the other categories.
The Santini is therefore only of limited suitability as a jersey bag. Rather, it is designed to be worn from the outset and to remain on the rider throughout the entire tour.
Another drawback is that the Thermo Jacket is only available in black. Despite its reflective elements, this isn’t the ideal solution for the darker months of the year.
With an overall mark of 2.0, the Santini achieves a good result. Its strengths lie not so much in its weight or weather protection as in its exceptionally high level of comfort and the successful combination of materials.
Mountain bikers who often ride in temperatures between 5 and 15 degrees and are looking for a comfortably warm, close-fitting jersey are likely to find this design particularly suitable.

The Santini Redux Power Wool Thermo Jacket Impresses with excellent comfort, high-quality materials and very effective temperature regulation. The combination of merino wool and windproof panels works brilliantly on cool autumn and spring rides. Points are deducted for its comparatively high weight and the fact that it is only available in black. For those who prioritise comfort and warmth over a minimal pack size, this is one of the most comfortable all-weather jerseys in the test.
