Chilly mornings, wet trails and changeable weather forecasts are part of everyday life for many mountain bikers. The Gobik Element is designed precisely for such conditions: it combines the weather protection of a lightweight jacket with the comfort of a long-sleeved jersey and is the ideal reliable companion for autumn rides, after-work rides and long days in the saddle. In the BIKE test, this Spanish weather jersey impressed most where mountain bikers need it most: in protecting against wind, spray and brief rain showers.

A comfortable fit for long days in the saddle

Gobik offers the Element Available in sizes 2XS to 2XL. The fit was rated as ‘normal’ in the test. This makes it easier to choose the right size compared to very close-fitting race models or styles that run particularly small. The weather jersey achieved a good score of 1.6 for fit and comfort.

This places the Gobik towards the top of the field, without quite setting the absolute benchmark. For mountain bikers, it is particularly important that a weather-resistant jersey offers sufficient freedom of movement, does not ride up at the back, and reliably protects the neck area from the cold. Overall, the Element meets these requirements convincingly.

240 grams: a sensible balance between protection and weight

In size L, the Gobik Element weighs 240 grams. The score of 1.5 for weight and pack size shows that Gobik has struck a good balance. Whilst this model is not one of the lightest in the test, it does benefit from its high level of weather protection.

Priced at 180 euros, this weather-resistant jersey, manufactured in Spain, falls within the mid-range of the products compared. For cyclists who regularly ride in changeable weather, the combination of weight, protection and price seems a sound choice. However, those simply looking for an ultra-light emergency option to carry in their rucksack will find more suitable alternatives.

Visibility as a strength in everyday trail running

In terms of features and functionality, BIKE awards a score of 2.5. This is the Gobik’s lowest sub-score. The features are comparatively simple and focus on the essentials. The review mentions a silicone cuff and a lined collar; additional functional details are given less attention.

On the other hand, the numerous reflective strips are a definite plus. They significantly improve visibility, particularly on overcast autumn days, when walking through woodland or on late evening runs. The lined collar provides useful protection against the weather and prevents unpleasant draughts around the neck.

Top-class weather protection

The Gobik Element’s greatest strength remains its weather protection. With a score of 1.0, the jersey achieved the highest mark in the test and is on a par with the best models in the comparison.

For rides in windy conditions, with spray and brief showers, the Element offers excellent protection without restricting the freedom of movement you’d expect from a classic rain jacket. It is precisely this balance that makes a modern weather-resistant jersey particularly appealing to many mountain bikers.

Ranking in the comparative test

With an overall score of 1.6, the Gobik Element ranks in the upper mid-table of the test field. Maap remains in the lead with an overall score of 1.3, followed by Castelli and Sportful, both on 1.4. The Gobik scores particularly highly for its excellent weather protection and high visibility.

Anyone looking for a full range of features, a wealth of functional details or the lightest possible weight will find more suitable alternatives when comparing models. The Gobik Element, on the other hand, is aimed at mountain bikers who prioritise reliable weather protection over a wealth of features.

The editorial team’s conclusion

The Gobik Element With an overall mark of 1.6, it ranks in the upper mid-table. Its weather protection is particularly strong: its mark of 1.0 places it amongst the best in the test field. Weighing in at 240 grams, the jersey is also easy to handle, whilst the regular fit suits many cyclists. There are some compromises in terms of the comparatively modest range of features, but the numerous reflective strips improve visibility. Recommended for training rides in changeable weather, when protection and visibility are more important than maximum functionality.
