The Speedwear Concept Tempest Protect combines windproof and water-repellent Tempest-Protect panels on the front and sides with a more breathable fabric on the back. The design is aimed at cyclists who ride in changeable weather and are looking for more protection than a classic long-sleeved jersey offers, without having to resort to a rain jacket straight away.
Further practical features include four back pockets, one of which has a zip, as well as all-round reflective detailing for improved visibility in low light.
The Bioracer’s greatest strength is its weather protection. With a top score of 1.0, this model is one of the strongest contenders in the entire test field.
It is on windy forest tracks, cold descents or in damp autumn weather that the fabric really comes into its own. The jersey provides reliable protection against the cold and effectively repels light rain and splashes.
For long rides in the rain, however, a waterproof rain jacket remains the better choice. The Bioracer is designed more as a high-performance weather protection layer for changeable conditions.
In terms of fit and comfort, the Tempest Protect scores 1.8. The cut is sporty and runs relatively small.
Anyone who prefers a close-fitting cut should find the fit suits them well. However, mountain bikers who are between two sizes, or riders who wish to wear extra layers underneath, should choose carefully and, if in doubt, opt for a size larger.
The available sizes range from S to 2XL.
Weighing 285 grams in size L, the Bioracer is not one of the lightest in this comparison. The rating of 2.5 for weight and pack size reflects this fact.
The model is therefore not so much intended as a compact spare in your rucksack, but rather as a weather-proof jersey to be worn right from the start of the ride. As such, it offers significantly more protection than particularly lightweight alternatives.
In terms of features and functionality, the Tempest Protect scores 2.0. The package includes:
The Bioracer therefore offers all the key features for trail riding and touring. What’s particularly pleasing is that, despite its high level of weather protection, the price remains comparatively reasonable at 139 euros.
With an overall mark of 1.7, the Bioracer may not be amongst the very best in the test, but it does offer one of the most attractive value-for-money options in the comparison.
Mountain bikers get a weather-resistant jersey offering top-class protection; all they have to do is accept minor compromises in terms of weight and the rather snug fit.

The Bioracer Speedwear Concept Tempest Protect Impresses with some of the best weather protection ratings across the entire test field and offers great value for money. The sporty, rather slim fit suits ambitious cyclists, but requires careful attention when choosing a size. Whilst the jersey isn’t one of the lightest models in the comparison, it does provide reliable protection against wind, cold and drizzle. Anyone looking for a high-performance weather jersey for autumn and spring whilst keeping an eye on their budget will find this one of the most interesting options in the test.
