Thule is expanding its Chasm range with new Gear Hauler models – a transport system designed to carry gear in an organised, weather-protected and easily accessible manner. The bags, available in 30, 55 and 80-litre sizes, combine robust materials with a well-designed interior and a construction that allows them to be folded away to save space, positioning them somewhere between a classic duffel bag and a sturdy box.

As the saying goes, only a genius can master chaos. Most people, however, appreciate at least a certain degree of order. When cycling gear, equipment and tools are strewn haphazardly about the car, frustration can set in before the ride has even begun. With the new Chasm Gear Haulers Thule has come up with an exciting concept: bags that can be used as flexible carry-on cases. The key feature is their semi-rigid construction, which allows them to retain their shape even when empty.

Robust hybrid construction for versatile use

This makes packing much easier and ensures that your kit remains organised at all times. Whilst rigid plastic boxes (such as the equally practical Euroboxes) always have to be precisely tailored to the available space in the vehicle, the outer walls of the Gear Hauler bags are flexible enough to adapt to the vehicle or boot. Stuff, squeeze, push – you can still fit the Gear Hauler into the boot even when space is already tight.

Quick access thanks to the large opening

A key feature is the spacious lid design. The zipped lid opens wide and can even be partially secured, ensuring quick and easy access to the contents. Inside, adjustable dividers and simple compartmentalised structures keep things tidy. This allows different types of gear to be separated from one another – such as wet clothes, tools or camping equipment.

The bags are clearly designed for outdoor use. Durable materials with a water-repellent coating reliably protect the contents from moisture and dirt. Another detail: the moulded, waterproof base either keeps moisture out or contains dirty gear inside – for example, after a wet day on the trail or when camping.

Three sizes for different applications

The new series comprises a total of three size categories, covering a range of different applications:

All models are based on the same fundamental principles of structural integrity, weather resistance and ease of access.

Flexible handling and sustainable materials

The bags offer a range of carrying options – such as side handles or top handles for carrying with one or two hands. Thule also uses recycled materials: the outer fabric, straps and lining are made entirely from recycled fibres.

Editor's conclusion

With the new Chasm Gear Haulers Thule bridges the gap between a soft duffel bag and a rigid carry case. The combination of structure, easy access and weatherproof design feels practical and well thought-out. For cyclists, campers or outdoor sports enthusiasts who regularly travel with a lot of kit, this concept can be a useful addition for organisation and structure. As is typical for Thule, the prices are set quite high. However, the high-quality workmanship and practical details clearly set the Chasm series apart from a simple transport box solution.
