More suspension travel, modified geometry, new colour selection. A lot has changed on the Orbea Rallon, the enduro bike from the Spanish company. The manufacturer wants to cover a wider range of applications with its new bike. It should score plenty of points on enduro trails in particular, which is why it is the Orbea Enduro Race Team's number 1 bike. But this mountain bike should also be a favourite for a trip to the bike park or a ride in the terrain or high mountains with friends.
The manufacturer summarises the geometry as "more aggressive". This primarily refers to the sportier design of the Orbea Rallon. The new Rallon has a slacker head angle (from 64° to 63.5°) and a reach of 485 mm in size L, which results in a sporty riding position. Together with a bottom bracket drop of 28 or 35 mm, the geometry should offer stability and good handling when cornering. The steep seat angle of 77.5º/77° should also contribute to this.
The Orbea Rallon comes with a complete carbon frame. The MTB should have a very good balance of frame stiffness and flexibility, so that the rear and front frame triangle should be very well balanced. Thanks to a shortened seat tube, it was also possible to adjust the overhang downwards. A lowerable seatpost with 200 mm travel is part of the Rallon for quick seat height adjustment. Riders can choose between low and lower positions.
Another new feature is the extended suspension travel: with its 167 mm travel, the shock of the Orbea Rallon has 7 mm more than its predecessor and should therefore be able to absorb impacts and bumps even better. With 170 mm of travel, the suspension fork should also be able to absorb a lot. The new geometry also comes with two new colour designs: Forest Green - Blue Stone and Mars Red - Black. In addition, the M-LTD and M11 models of the Orbea Rallon are also available with the electronic Sram AXS gear system.
Not only has the suspension travel increased, but the revised suspension is also said to have led to a more progressive characteristic curve and a more rearward axle path. The aim in conjunction with the shock: fast and agile through corners, as well as control on loose surfaces. The more progressive characteristic curve helps to keep the bike under control even when the suspension travel is fully utilised. By improving the axle path, the Orbea Rallon glides over bumps, so to speak, and thus keeps the speed at a high level.
Braking and pedalling characteristics have remained largely the same: The Orbea primarily refers to the prevention of the damper from rebounding during braking (anti-rise), as well as the prevention of the damper from compressing during acceleration (anti-squat).
The aim of the new geometry of the Rallon Enduro was simply defined: On descents, you want the saddle as low as possible, which is made possible by a short seat tube and the seat post with 200 mm travel. This also allows the overhang to be corrected downwards. The increased freedom of movement means that the rider has more control over the bike and can therefore speed downhill even faster. Orbea calls this "Steep and Deep".
These adjustments for "Steep and Deep" bring another advantage: even though the Orbea Rallon is available in sizes S, M, L and XL, every rider can orientate themselves primarily on the reach and subordinate the size. The majority of riders should therefore be able to choose between two to three sizes. This plays a decisive role for the individual riding style in particular: for a more directional ride, a larger frame with a longer reach is recommended. If agility is more important to you, you should opt for a smaller frame.
There is a choice of two wheel variants. The classic 29-inch rear wheel is designed to give the bike more speed. The mullet version comes with the Orbea Rallon 27.5-inch rear wheel, which is probably more playful than the 29-inch version.
The manufacturer is also proud of the bike's bearing seal. This prevents premature bearing replacement and ensures good damping even in poor conditions.
The frame of the Rallon offers a number of storage options to ensure you always have the most important accessories with you. In addition to the classic option of attaching a water bottle in the frame triangle, there are two waterproof bags with a spare tube, tyre levers and additional space for two CO2 cartridges in the so-called Lockr compartment. Smaller tools, such as an Allen key, should have space in the main pivot point and the rear wheel axle.
More and more manufacturers are offering customised bike configurations. With MyO, Orbea not only offers its own free customisation of the paintwork, but also the exchange of special components. Changing the wheels and other components or even a gear ratio adapted to the rider should keep the option of a customised Orbea Rallon open.
