The YT Decoy range is no stranger, especially to our EMTB editorial team. The Core 2-, Core 3-and Core 4-We have already tested all of these versions. The Enduro version was even the test winner. However, the new YT Decoy Uncaged 10 is not another version of the Core range, but is based on the Uncaged models, in particular its predecessor, the Capra Uncaged 10, with the aim of combining freeride and E-MTB.
The main focus of the new YT Uncaged 10 is the EP801 unit. The e-bike motor is a fairly new development from Shimano. It is supposed to be more powerful and therefore offer improved acceleration at high cadences. According to the manufacturer, the unit has a torque of 85 Nm - in our test, the Shimano motor delivered a real 84 Nm. Shimano specifies a maximum output of 600 watts. In our test in the test laboratory, the EP801 delivered up to 544 watts at the rear wheel in the relevant cadence range of 60 to 110 crank revolutions per minute. This means that the new EP801 noticeably outperforms the previous EP8 (465 watts/ 79 Nm) in terms of power.
A powerful motor requires a lot of energy. To provide this, the YT Decoy Uncaged is equipped with a 720 Wh battery from the outset. This was previously only available as an expensive accessory in addition to the familiar 540 watt-hour battery. In addition, the new drive should be better protected against the weather. Compatibility with Freeshift is also interestingbecause you don't have to pedal when changing gear. This is a real advantage, especially on downhill gradients and when cornering, as it allows you to continue riding in the right gear.
The new YT Decoy e-bike comes with the FOX 38 Float Performance fork, 170 mm travel, GRIP damper and thru-axle suspension, which should provide the rider with the best possible support on any terrain. The FOX DHX Performance shock has a different spring rate depending on the size (400 lbs for M-L, 450 lbs for XL, 500 lbs for XXL). The gears are shifted using the SLX transmission group from Shimano (12-speed gears). In addition to the Freeshift, a more tactile XT gear lever should also improve shifting.
The crank length of 160 mm is very short, which is why it is usually found on smaller bikes. However, a shorter crank length helps to avoid pedal bob on climbs. The position of the legs is also more relaxed, as you don't have to lift your knees as far at the top of the pedals. The Maxxis Assegai tyres at the front and the Minion DHR II at the rear are designed to provide plenty of traction off-road. The Sram Code R brakes offer excellent modulation and stability on steep terrain and descents.
