The Propain Tyee AL 6 for just under 4000 euros is based on an aluminium frame, mullet setup and has been uncompromisingly trimmed for downhill riding. Thanks to the online configurator, the mail-order company leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to customising the bike. With steel spring shock absorbers, a 170 mm ZEB suspension fork and solid Maxxis double-down tyres on the rear wheel, the enduro bike is completely park-compatible and ready for any challenge.
However, the concentrated downhill performance is also noticeable in the weight: At 17 kilos ready to ride, the Tyee is simply heavy, and the aluminium frame alone weighs around 750 grams more than the carbon frame. In the last Enduro Special, we were already able to test the versatile Propain Tyee in the carbon version with 160 mm suspension fork and lightweight construction.
In terms of geometry, the Propain is up to date. Outliers are the extremely short 30 mm stem and the long chainstays typical of Propain - despite the small rear wheel.
The Tyee runs smoothly and confidently on our test track on the Geißkopf, while the steel spring rear end smoothes the ground sensitively and actively. Despite the long rear end, manuals are easier than expected. Due to its high weight, the bike is absolutely plush even in rough sections, but also requires an active riding style and a lot of physical effort.
In a direct comparison, we only liked the rear of the Canyon Torque 29 CF 7 (here in the test of enduro bikes up to 4000 euros) is a tick better in fast sections. Uphill, the Propain Tyee is one of the more comfortable candidates. The combination of high weight, very short riding position and poorly accessible shock platform takes its toll. The equipment is at a very high level.
The downhill-orientated design of the Tyee AL 6 proves the potential that lies dormant in the enduro bike. Depending on which checkbox you tick in the configurator, the Tyee is very versatile.
