Cannondale Jekyll 1: the enduro bike with freeride genes on test
We know the Cannondale Jekyll well. For the duel against Pivot's Firebird, we rode it over lots of park descents and categorised it as a freeride bike.

The stroke definitely speaks in favour of the freeride category. The manufacturer calls the bike a long-travel enduro bike. The equipment leaves hardly anything to be desired. Fox Factory suspension, Sram Code brakes with large discs, proven tyre combination. Check! Eye-catchers are the split down tube, the chic effect paint and the high-pivot construction.

On our test track in the Geißkopf bike park, the Jekyll feels overpowered, pumps more sluggishly through flatter sections than other bikes and craves traction. The situation is different on steep, angry sections: Then the bike generates a lot of confidence and flattens everything out with its sensitive, potent suspension. In short, the Cannondale Jekyll is more of a specialist than an all-rounder. Our racers in the test field criticised the steering behaviour, which took some getting used to due to the super-short 35 millimetre stem. Uphills can be mastered despite the chubby weight. Although the rear triangle does not have a platform, it hardly bobs even in open mode. The test duel against the Pivot Firebird we have in the FREERIDE 4/21 published.

PLUS: Comfortable chassis, good-natured geo

MINUS: pointed application range, sluggish handling

Conclusion on the Cannondale Jekyll 1:

Confident, safe, fast. The Jekyll generates massive amounts of grip and takes a lot of work off the rider's hands. On tamer descents, we missed pop and feedback from the ground.

Wolfgang Watzke, tester: "The Jekyll has a first-class chassis that responds very well and allows a lot of speed. It's more of a freerider than an enduro bike - you should know that."Photo: Wolfgang Watzke Wolfgang Watzke, tester: "The Jekyll has a first-class chassis that responds very well and allows a lot of speed. Born in South Baden, Laurin Lehner is, by his own admission, a lousy racer. Maybe that's why he is fascinated by creative, playful biking. What counts for him is not how fast you get from A to B, but what happens in between. Lehner writes reports, interviews scene celebrities and tests products and bikes - preferably those with a lot of suspension travel.
