If life puts obstacles in your way, just jump over them. Of course, not all hurdles in life are as easy to overcome as on a bike. But sometimes life is kind to you. Like with this test, for example. Because according to the reader survey, the brands of our test bikes are right at the top of the most-wanted list. So here you go:
In order not to go completely beyond the financial framework, we set the price limit at 5000 euros. While the two specialist brands Giant and Specialized are at the upper end of the price range, the Radon Jab and the YT Capra only cost 3999 euros. Canyon Strive and the new Propain Tyee are in between. Anyone testing enduro mountain bikes should also define what an enduro bike is. But lo and behold: even with four different testers, there are almost as many points of view regarding the specifications of an enduro MTB.
The fact is that the category has changed over the last few years. Thanks to the involvement of many brands in the Enduro World Series and the input of their sponsored athletes, the all-rounders of yesteryear have specialised. Demanding special stages at Downhill World Cup level require special equipment. Larger wheels for more reserves in rough terrain, extremely flat steering angles and a long reach for even more composure and confidence when every second counts downhill are the result. Due to the tough demands on the material, the weights also inevitably increased in order to reach the finish line without any defects.
Back then, if you were looking for a downhill all-rounder, you went for an enduro bike. Today, however, these original requirements are better fulfilled by most all-mountain bikes. Above a certain weight, touring suitability falls by the wayside. Our test bikes levelled off at an average of 14.6 kilos, with outliers at the top and bottom. While the Radon Jab is still a real all-rounder at just 13.7 kilos, the Specialized Enduro with two kilos more should have a lift nearby. So please check carefully which type of enduro bike suits you so that your chosen bike doesn't turn out to be a frog in the end.
You can find out all the information from the joint laboratory and practical test (by BIKE and FREERIDE ) of these six enduro MTBs in the test report. The entire article with all test results, technical data and grades is available as a PDF in the download area below.
The test costs 1.99 euros. Why not free of charge? Because quality journalism has a price. In return, we guarantee independence and objectivity. This applies in particular to the tests in BIKE. We don't charge for them, but the opposite is the case: we do charge for them - tens of thousands of euros every year.
