The Spanish brand Gobik is still little known in this country, but was founded in 2010 as a manufacturer of customised team clothing. A few years later, the brand created its first complete collection of cycling clothing. High-quality fabrics and minimalist design have been the Spaniards' guiding principle ever since. The Long-Distance Bib Short Ultralite 2.0 also aims to live up to this.
The Gobik Ultralite 2.0 lives up to its name as soon as you touch it: weighing just 144 grams, it is one of the absolute lightweights. That doesn't mean that female bikers have to sacrifice comfort, as the material is absolutely skin-friendly and feels velvety soft on the thighs.
The sophisticated design completely dispenses with cross seams. Only two slim seams on the back of the thighs join the trousers together. This virtually eliminates pressure points. A band of barely noticeable silicone prints keeps the leg cuffs in place, so nothing slips during the ride.
The construction of the seamless straps of the Gobik Ultralite 2.0 is also special: they have a Y-shape and come together in the centre of the chest, which our testers found extremely comfortable. Thanks to their shape and good elasticity, they hold the trousers securely in place. However, patience is required when putting them on, as the wafer-thin material rolls up a lot and is difficult to position perfectly on the shoulders. Here we have the somewhat more robust straps of the Gobik men's trousers liked it better.
With a leg length of 30.5 centimetres, the Gobik Ultralite 2.0 is pleasantly long and modern.
Elastic Interface supplies the seat pad for the Gobik. With a width of 18 centimetres and a medium thickness throughout, it should be very suitable for most sit bone distances. The pad is neatly positioned in the trousers and is very unobtrusive, but could provide a little more support for our taste. The padding on the men's trousers is firmer, which is an advantage on long rides.
The soft and lightweight material of the Gobik Ultralite 2.0 feels like nothing, but still fits securely. The straps run comfortably between the chest, but are awkward to handle and roll up quite a bit when you put them on. The silicone on the leg cuffs is slightly noticeable during the ride. The high-quality padding is well positioned and can withstand long rides.
