A few years ago, the Anthem was one of the first 29er full-suspension bikes to fully convince us in our test. Technically unchanged, it is still one of the best concepts on the market. Thanks to the successful geometry, the lightest aluminium frame in the comparison group (2.7 kilos with shock) and the homogeneous comfort suspension, the bike is suitable for a wide range of use including marathon starts. The Anthem loves technical trails and, together with the Canyon, it is the most confidence-inspiring bike in the group on the descents. The rear suspension is very sensitive, drive-neutral and comfort-orientated. Those who prefer a smoother rear end can switch to trail mode on the shock, even if "the shock setting is difficult to reach", as reader Stefan criticises. Tester Bernd, on the other hand, praises the wide cockpit and chooses the Anthem as his number two. Tuning tip: a remote-controlled telescopic dropper post.
Conclusion: A prime example of a successful 29er fully. You can't go wrong with the versatile Giant Anthem.
PLUS Top geometry, light chassis, superior handling
MINUS Small rear brake disc, no thru axle
The alternative
You have to invest just under 2000 euros for the entry-level model Anthem X 29er 3. As the suspension and geometry do not change, this is definitely worth a recommendation. Components can be swapped.
