Specialized has revised both the rubber compound and tread of the Butcher and Eliminator MTB tyres. Both tyres have been given thicker side lugs and more widely spaced tread blocks as well as completely new rubber compounds.
We rode the Specialized combination of Butcher front and Eliminator rear on the Light-E-MTB Levo SL - in the Dolomites, on mountain tours in the foothills of the Alps and on the Freiburg trails. Sometimes the ground was hard and dry. Sometimes it was muddy and damp.
It was noticeable that the estate cut a good figure in all conditions. Of course, there are softer, grippier front tyres than the Butcher Grid in the trail casing version - but the front tyre is comparatively light at just 985 grams (29 inches) and has solid watt values for rolling resistance. As a result, it steers very controlled and good-naturedly through bends.
The rear tyre Eliminator Grid in the trail casing version 2.3 harmonised skilfully with the front. If the pair did lose traction, it was very even and controlled, leaving enough time to counteract this.
In short: We can recommend this pair as an all-rounder combination. Little wear and tear!

Lightweight, grippy enough, affordable and above all durable. Great all-round combination. - FREERIDE Magazine
