There is one tread for the front wheel and one for the rear wheel. With the super-stable and heavy DH carcass that Continental has given us on a Specialised Levo test bike the MTB tyres are designed for extreme terrain and low air pressures. For tamer use, the Continental tyres are also available in a trail or enduro version (1060 or 1130 grams in 29 x 2.4").
Our test combination of Continental MTB tyres impressed with enormous damping. Even with low air pressure, the tyres are very stable on the rim. The rear tyre digs into the ground really well on climbs and generates a lot of traction. The soft Supersoft compound on the front tyre keeps the bike perfectly on track - a big safety plus. A detailed test will have to show how the tyre performs in direct comparison with the market leaders from Maxxis and Schwalbe, but our first impression is absolutely positive! By the way: If you ride a lot of kilometres and also cover longer distances on asphalt or paved roads, you should refrain from using the very thick and soft tyres. This is because increased wear and tough rolling resistance tend to put the brakes on riding enjoyment.
