Continental has the eContact Plus tyre in its range especially for e-bikes: puncture protection comes before rolling resistance, durability before weight. The tip for a carefree everyday tyre?

Topics in this article

As a touring-oriented tyre for road and everyday use Continental the eContact Plus in the programme. Continental combines a slightly offset, scale-like tread pattern in the centre with larger drainage channels for water and outer surfaces with slight transverse grooves. The tyre is heavy but puncture-proof and, like many of the additionally reinforced Conti tyres, comes with a voluntary additional guarantee from Continental, which replaces the tyre and part of the fitting costs in the event of damage in the first year.

Special e-bike tyres are particularly stable and durable. Rolling resistance and weight are of secondary importance, as the motor helps here. However, almost all normal tyres are also approved for e-bikes. Those who prioritise lightweight construction, off-road grip, damping or rolling resistance will therefore often be happier with conventional tyres. - Adrian Kaether, Test Manager MYBIKE

Inconspicuous in practice

In practice, the eContact Plus is completely unobtrusive. The high weight is hardly noticeable when accelerating on an e-bike. Thanks to the high puncture protection, the tyre is quite firm, but still conveys a lot of confidence even on wet roads or light gravel. The tyre is not in its element off-road or on wet leaves or grass, but you can't expect that in this category. eContact Plus or the competitor Energizer from Schwalbe? Both tyres are very close to each other in the lab and in practice. The Continental is handmade and therefore slightly more expensive.

Strengths

  • All-round driving experience
  • High puncture protection

BIKE conclusion on the eContact Plus

Continental's E tyre features fine scales in the centre and light hatching on the outer sides. Like its competitor, it is heavy, but performs even better in terms of puncture protection. Unfortunately, the rolling performance is only average. No surprises in practice. Handmade, therefore a little more expensive. - Adrian Kaether, test editor
