British component manufacturer DMR is expanding its pedal range with a larger version of the popular Vault model. The so-called Vault Max is manufactured entirely in the UK and is designed to offer mountain bikers an even larger contact surface. With a length of 112 millimetres and a width of 111 millimetres, the platform of the Vault Max is around 11 percent larger than the standard model.
DMR promises more stability and grip thanks to the increased contact area, especially on demanding trails. The characteristic concave shape of the pedal body with a 5 millimetre curvature in combination with the DMR pins should ensure optimum grip. The Vault Max has 11 interchangeable pins on each side. The grip level can be customised by adjusting the height and number of pins.
A unique selling point of the Vault Max is that it is manufactured in Great Britain. The pedal body is CNC-milled from a single piece of aircraft aluminium. Machining takes place just a few kilometres from DMR's headquarters at PR Precision Engineering in Sussex. After anodising and laser engraving, the pedals are finally assembled in the DMR workshop. Hardened steel axles and a combination of plain bearings and ball bearings are used.
With a height of 17 millimetres, the Vault Max are comparatively flat. This is intended to increase ground clearance and reduce pedal contact. The manufacturer gives the weight as 450 grams per pair. The Vault Max are available in various anodised colours. The price is 193 euros. DMR has thus clearly positioned the pedals in the premium segment. The Vault Max are now available exclusively via the DMR website.
The manufacturer sees the DMR Vault Max as being equally suited to the trail, all-mountain, enduro and downhill segments. Thanks to the larger platform, they should particularly appeal to riders with large feet or those looking for maximum stability.
