The wheel specialist Scope presents the R-series, consisting of 6 new aero wheelsets in the mid-price segment. This series from the Netherlands covers numerous areas of use, from off-road adventures to time trials, and offers rim geometries that are specially adapted to the respective requirements.

With the revised R series - R stands for "Race" - Scope has completely restructured its mid-range portfolio. With a price of 1698 euros, which is the same for all wheelsets (with the exception of the disc rear wheel for time trials), the product line is positioned between the exclusive Artech series (3998 euros) and the entry-level "Sport" range (998 euros).

Scope R series: Six different rim dimensions

A total of six different rim dimensions are available, divided into the Road, Allroad and Gravel categories. Instead of the previous 30, 45 and 57 millimetre rims, the road version will in future be available with a rim height of 45 or 65 millimetres (R4 and R6). The same applies to the all-road versions R4.A and R6.A. Scope has thus removed the flat 30-millimetre rims from the range.

The road and all-road models differ in terms of rim width: while the road rims are 23 millimetres wide, the all-road versions offer an inner width of 25 millimetres for wider tyres. Both versions rely on a classic hooked rim. An off-road wheelset with a rim height of 45 millimetres, the R4.G, is available for wide gravel tyres. It is 28 millimetres wide and has a hookless rim. Time trialists and triathletes are addressed with the R8.T, which has a rim height of 85 millimetres. With a width of 23 millimetres, it is ideal for road tyres up to 28 millimetres. There will also be a matching disc rear wheel, which will cost 1798 euros individually.

All wheelsets come with spoke nipples embedded in the rim and a new hub with a milled aluminium body, which should be somewhat lighter and more durable. The ratchet freehub and a labyrinth seal should guarantee a long service life. Despite the lower price, the wheels are said to be aerodynamically on a par with the expensive Artech versions and outperform well-known competitors. In a diagram, Scope shows the R6 and R6.A on a par with the Roval Rapide SLX Sprint; they are said to offer an advantage of two to three watts over well-known competitors from DT Swiss, Enve or Zipp. Measurements were taken in the wind tunnel in Silverstone at 45 km/h with 28-millimetre tyres.

All wheelsets are compatible with freewheels from leading gear manufacturers Campagnolo, Shimano and SRAM. The specified weights are between 1349 grams for the R4 and 1785 grams for the 85 millimetre high R8.T. The road and all-road wheels are available immediately; the gravel and triathlon versions are set to follow in the first quarter of 2026.
