In addition to a small range of complete bikes, young entrepreneur Felix Mai from Bielefeld also offers an arsenal of selected Chinese components to build your own bike. In addition to a carbon frame set and inexpensive Chinese gears, this also includes the eye-catching wheelset with a wave profile, which is reminiscent of the expensive top models from Fulcrum, Princeton or Zipp.
However, you wouldn't even get the latter second-hand for 699 euros. The main concession to the bargain price is that the gravel wheelset is not one of the lightest: 250 grams more than the lightest model in the test from Engage, which costs 200 euros more. On the other hand, the front wheel in particular is very stiff, which should make even heavy riders with luggage feel safe. With a rim width of 23 millimetres, the rims are relatively wide; Mai recommends tyres at least 35 millimetres wide, but also allows a width of 65 millimetres.
