For a long time, there was a gap in the Mavic portfolio. The Deemax wheelset was the heavy-duty option for E-MTBs and difficult enduro descents. Weight: Not quite so important. The Crossmax XC range was significantly lighter but also less robust. Now Mavic is plugging this gap and presenting three new wheels with very similar weight and range of use at short intervals. We provide an overview.
The Mavic Crosstrail SL complements the portfolio beyond the Crossmax upwards. The wheels are designed as all-rounders for tough trail use through to enduro routes and are ASTM Class 4 approved. The inner width is modern at a wide 30 millimetres and the wheel is of course tubeless compatible. Mavic also promises high stiffness for precise handling and yet good compliance of the rim and spokes for a pleasant and forgiving ride. The wheels are available either as a high-quality aluminium version or with a carbon rim.
Analogue to other manufacturers, such as DT Swiss, Mavic is also launching a special version of the new Crosstrail wheels for lightweight e-mountainbikes. The highlight: the wheels are almost as light as the classic trail version and have the same features. However, the freewheel is slightly reinforced to cope with the higher drive force from the motor. However, the E-Crosstrail SL barely undercuts the slightly more expensive E-Deemax S (899 euros / 2008 grams) in terms of weight. The three wheels Crosstrail SL, E-Crosstrail SL and E-Deemax S are therefore extremely close to each other, at least on paper
Tough as nails: In enduro racing, wheels are considered wear parts. It is therefore only logical that Mavic rolls out a special wheel for this application. As the name suggests, the Deemax Enduro SL is based on the Deemax e-MTB and downhill wheel, but is at least a little lighter. The rim also measures 30 millimetres on the inside. The wheel is even approved for downhill use (ASTM 5) and a whopping 150 kilos. This creates confidence that the Deemax Enduro SL can also hold its own in racing for a long time. Price: 899 euros.
