Most mountain bikers are probably familiar with this situation: tyres are flat despite the tubeless setup, the axle has no quick release and the mini-tool is at home in the garage. That's how quickly the tour ends. The American accessories specialist Lezyne wants to provide a mini tool that is always with you, even if you don't think about it. Because it is hidden, barely visible, inside the handlebars. This means you have the mini tool with you even if your jersey is short of pockets or your rucksack stays at home. Similar tools are already available from Giant, Smarttube or Wolftooth.
The Handlebar Hero can even be stowed in curved handlebars, such as on a road or gravel bike. Provided that the straight part of the handlebar is at least as long as the tool itself. The mini tool is therefore available in three sizes. In the shortest version (S), the CNC-milled aluminium part holds five standard steel bits. The medium version (M) holds eight bits and the longest version (L) can even hold eleven different bits. The head can be bent through 90 degrees to loosen even difficult-to-reach screws. This enlarges the lever.
The Handlebar Hero is pushed into the handlebar ends from the outside. The end of the tool forms the handlebar plug. To prevent annoying rattling, three O-rings of different thicknesses are supplied. These should ensure a rattle-free fit in all standard handlebar diameters. The weight of the longest version is said to be 84 grams.
In addition to the mini-tool, Lezyne also offers a tubeless repair kit, which is also stowed in the handlebar end. The tubeless patches and the steel spur are concealed in a round aluminium holder. Lezyne specifies the weight of the tubeless repair kit at 35 grams.
Lezyne offers the mini-tool and the tubeless repair kit separately or as a package. The mini tool and repair kit set costs €79.95, while the mini tool alone starts at €35.95 in the smallest version and costs €49.95 in the longest version.
