With The Cockpit, Bike Ahead aims to set new standards in the segment of integrated handlebar stem systems for road and gravel bikes. The Würzburg-based carbon manufacturer is presenting an innovative unit that is characterised by its low weight, fully integrated cable routing and extensive customisation options. The Cockpit is manufactured entirely in Germany and will be available from the end of August 2025.
The centrepiece of The Cockpit is the one-piece monocoque construction made of carbon. Thanks to the one-piece construction, Bike Ahead achieves a particularly low weight of just 299 grams in the lightest configuration. At the same time, the manufacturer promises high rigidity for precise steering behaviour. The cable routing for brakes and gears runs completely inside the handlebars and stem. This means that the cables are routed invisibly through the headset directly into the frame. This ensures a tidy appearance and optimised aerodynamics.
A special feature of The Cockpit is the option to customise the geometry. In addition to standard sizes, Bike Ahead offers a custom option that allows customers to freely combine handlebar width, stem length and drop variant. This allows the cockpit to be customised precisely to personal preferences and the optimum riding position. There is a choice of stem lengths from 88 to 133 millimetres and handlebar widths between 360 and 440 millimetres. Bike Ahead manufactures The Cockpit with either race or gravel-specific drops.
The Cockpit is produced in the Würzburg factory of Bike Ahead. By manufacturing in Germany, the manufacturer aims to guarantee the highest precision and quality. The quality of workmanship is said to be so high that there is no need for additional painting. The finish consists of matt, unidirectional carbon. For the development, Bike Ahead co-operated with the Swiss premium brand Stoll Bikes, whose frames are also produced in Würzburg.
To ensure maximum safety, The Cockpit has not only been tested according to the ISO standard, but also according to the stricter ASTM-2 standard in the renowned EFBE test laboratory, according to the manufacturer. The cockpit is approved for driver weights of up to 100 kilograms. The Cockpit uses an IS52 headset from Acros for system integration. Bike Ahead offers matching top covers for frames from various manufacturers. A GPS mount weighing just 9.5 grams is included for mounting bike computers and similar accessories.
The new handlebar stem unit Bike Ahead The Cockpit will be available from the end of August 2025. The price for the high-end part including computer mount is 899 euros. Interested parties can contact Bike Ahead directly if they have any questions about compatibility.
