The Gazelle Curb is aimed at city cyclists looking for a sleek e-bike with no visible technical components. Gazelle fits the Bosch Hub Line, a rear-wheel motor with a maximum torque of 45 Nm and is thus only the second manufacturer after Canyon, which is using the new hub motor to power its new Roadlite:ON CF. The drive system is designed to be suitable for city traffic and to enable smooth acceleration. The removable battery has a capacity of 360 Wh and can be charged via a charging port on the frame. For longer journeys, Gazelle offers the Bosch PowerMore 250 Range Extender as an option. This additional battery increases the capacity by 250 Wh. The battery remains virtually invisible, housed within the frame.
The Curb C1 features a Gates belt drive and is single-speed. This model has no gear changes and is said to be low-maintenance. The Curb T9 uses a chain and a derailleur with nine gears. According to the manufacturer, this model is also suitable for trips into the countryside. Both models are available as low-step and high-step (diamond frame) versions. There are several colours to choose from. The Curb will be available later this year. Anyone interested can visit the Gazelle website www.gazelle.de Register to receive information about the launch. The available colours are already listed there.
The Dutch manufacturer integrates the cables and battery fully into the frame. The Supernova lighting system is incorporated into the design: the front headlight is housed in the handlebars, whilst the rear light is integrated into the mudguard. This design is intended to provide protection in urban traffic whilst keeping the visual impact to a minimum.
The cockpit does not have its own display. Instead, the Curb uses an integrated interface for SP Connect and Quad Lock on the handlebars. The smartphone can be attached there and displays the speed and remaining range via the Gazelle app.
Hydraulic disc brakes are fitted as standard. A frame lock is already fitted, and there is a second mounting point for an additional lock. Gazelle offers optional front and rear luggage racks designed to match the frame.
The Red Dot jury praised the frame design and the integration of functional details. The award is one of the most prestigious international design prizes. Gazelle received the award upon its market launch.
The Gazelle Curb is a well-thought-out city bike. The combination of the new Bosch rear-wheel motor and fully integrated cables makes it a serious contender for design- and price-conscious commuters.
