The Avinox DP200 is, above all, an alternative integration solution. Instead of a large top-tube display and separate controls, it combines the display, motor control and, optionally, the gearshift directly on the handlebars. Experience shows that such solutions tend to be found on budget e-bikes and in the city and trekking segments. In the sports segment, operating the gearshift with the left hand might meet with some resistance.
With the Avinox DP200 Control Display, the e-bike drive manufacturer is expanding its existing range of displays. Whilst the Avinox screens on the bikes with the top-of-the-range Avinox M2S unit or the cheaper M2 Whilst these features were previously integrated into the top tube, the DP200 is now mounted directly on the handlebars. There, it combines a display and five physical buttons in a single unit.
For manufacturers, this opens up new possibilities in terms of design and features. They can continue to opt for a larger display, fixed securely to the top tube, with separate wireless controls. Alternatively, they can choose the DP200 as a more compact combined solution. Which option makes more sense depends less on a general assessment of quality than on the intended use, the desired cockpit look and the price point of an e-bike.

The DP200 is primarily a component for bicycle manufacturers, not necessarily a display designed for a specific category of bike. In the previous Avinox concept, the display and touchscreen controls are housed in the top tube, whilst the controls on the handlebars are operated via two separate units. In the models unveiled for 2027, Cube Stereo Hybrid One44 with Avinox drive system This is precisely the top tube integration that is envisaged. Indeed, all Avinox bikes to date have been designed around this classic combination.
The DP200 now combines these functions into a single unit. The display is positioned right next to the handle, and the buttons are within easy reach of the thumb. This allows the user to control the assistance level, lighting, push assist and, with compatible drive configurations, the gear changes, all via a single unit.
What is particularly noteworthy here is the integration of the gear shifter, which is traditionally positioned on the right-hand side of the handlebars. This could take some getting used to, particularly for experienced mountain bikers who have been accustomed to having a gear shifter on the right-hand grip for many years.
For brands, this solution is therefore likely to be of economic interest as well: a compact combined display can replace a more complex combination of a large top-tube display and separate function buttons. Whether this actually results in a price advantage for buyers in practice, however, depends on the respective manufacturer’s cost calculations.
The DP200 features two rocker switches, a separate on/off switch and a touchscreen. According to Avinox, the upper buttons control the assistance level by default, whilst the lower ones control gear changes on compatible electronic gear systems. Long presses of these buttons are also said to activate boost mode, the lights and the push assist, and these functions can also be controlled via the different screen views. According to the manufacturer, the assistance buttons can also be customised directly within the display menu.
The physical buttons are likely to be more important in everyday use than the touch function. Whether you’re adjusting the assistance level or switching on the lights, there’s no need to change your grip. This is just as convenient on your daily commute to work as it is on a leisurely ride. However, the ergonomics still need to prove themselves in practical use: the key factor will be how easily the buttons can be pressed whilst wearing thick gloves, in wet conditions and without looking.
The 1.4-inch screen is a full-colour LCD with touch control. Avinox highlights its high brightness for use in direct sunlight, as well as its anti-reflective and scratch-resistant surface treatment. The IP56 protection rating indicates a high degree of dust protection and protection against powerful water jets. The casing should therefore be able to withstand rain and driving through mud, but it is not designed to be submerged.
The small display is a defining feature of the design. It should be sufficient for showing speed, battery level, assistance mode and basic ride statistics. However, anyone wishing to view a lot of training data or a detailed map directly on the bike would be better off with a larger display on the top tube or an additional navigation device.
The DP200’s functionality becomes particularly extensive when used with a bicycle fitted with a compatible electronic gear system such as the TRP E.A.S.I. for Aviniox is fitted with. In this case, the lower buttons are designed not only to change gears, but also to support functions such as automatic downshifting when stationary and a gear ratio that makes setting off easier. Avinox has not yet disclosed which bicycle brands and models will be combining the DP200 with these components in future.
For bikes with conventional derailleurs, the DP200 therefore remains primarily a compact unit for motor control and ride data. Only when paired with a suitable, system-integrated gear system does it become a fully-fledged control centre.
Avinox integrates the DP200 into Apple’s ‘Find My’ network. This should allow a compatible e-bike to be located via the familiar Apple app without the need to fit a separate tracker. How Apple’s ‘Find My’ works and how effectively a search is carried out also depends on the surroundings and the number of devices within range.
This feature may be useful in the event of theft, but it does not prevent theft and is no substitute for a sturdy lock or appropriate insurance. The Apple Watch unlocking feature mentioned by Avinox is also primarily a convenience feature. Android users do not benefit from this Apple-specific added value.
