No, in the end there was no surprise in Nuremberg's Old Town. It was pretty clear that the two rotation artists Nicholi Rogatkin and Emil Johansson would be the winners of the District Ride. It was also obvious that our German slopestyle ace, Erik Fedko, would trick his way to the top after his current run of success. In the end: 3rd place for Erik. That also means: the best result ever achieved by a German at the Red Bull District Ride!
While big mountain riders were still mixed into the starting field at previous events, this time only the slopestyle experts from the FMB World Tour took part. "The progression is crazy - it's no wonder that only absolute specialists make it into the top ten," said Former slopestyler Peter Henkewho himself took part in the District Ride in Nuremberg in 2017. Five slopestyle women celebrated their première, getting the opportunity to take part in the best trick event for the first time. A separate women's competition is planned for the future.

FREERIDE: Tarek, what was your highlight at the District Ride 2022 in Nuremberg?
Tarek Rasouli: The evening of the Best Trick Award. I was hoping for a "World's First", but I would never have guessed that there would be five. Women took part for the first time, which was another highlight.
Your favourite?
I liked the 360 Tailwhip to Barspin to opposite downside Tailwhip from Emil. He tried it for the first time here and stood up straight away. But David Godziek's trick was also impressive.
Emil takes the tension out of the FMB ranking like FC Bayern takes it out of the Bundesliga. Can this guy still be stopped?
Emil tricks at the next level. His strength: he can perform complex tricks in both directions. And all in a single jump. In short: Emil is almost unstoppable.
This year there were three finals instead of two. Why?
Three runs were never planned. But the weather forecast for Saturday was bad with lots of rain. A wet course could ruin the whole event. That's why we brought forward one run to Friday. The sun did shine on Saturday - no reason to cancel the runs.
to cancel the runs. So there were three.
The District Ride is a mega event. Why isn't it also organised in other cities?
This is not a new idea. We have often looked at other cities. London, Paris - it was mostly due to the lack of gradients and the cities' willingness to make it possible. You wouldn't imagine how much effort such a mega event takes!
The Rampage took place on 15 October - which format is more exciting?
You can't compare the two events. One is big mountain, the other slopestyle. In contrast to the Rampage, the District Ride is an event where you can be up close and personal - a super experience. Watching a livestream doesn't come close.
