At last year's triple World Championships, the courses in Leogang, Austria, proved to be extremely challenging. In June 2021, the DH and XC courses will be integrated into the UCI MTB World Cup.

After the muddy triple World Cup last autumn, the 2021 World Cup will take place from 11 to 13 June. Double World Cup in Downhill and Cross Country in the Salzburger Land region. While Leogang is the first stop for the Downhill, the XC World Cup circus already in Albstadt, Germany, in May and in Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic.

In autumn 2020, Frenchman Jordan Sarrou became the surprise world champion in Leogang, Austria. The course was challenging and extremely muddy. This year, the technically difficult World Cup course from the previous year will be included in the World Cup. The fastest male and female cross-country riders will compete in the penultimate major race before the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The opening race in Albstadt from 7 to 9 May 2021 will take place without spectators due to the coronavirus restrictions. However, all races will be broadcast live on Red Bull TV. It is still unclear whether spectators will be allowed on the track in Leogang.

There was also a surprise winner in the downhill at the 2020 World Championships. Scotland's Reece Wilson dominated the competition on the extremely muddy course. This year, Leogang will now be the first stop of the Downhill World Cup. The speedster track in the Epic Bikepark Leogang has already been extended for the World Cup with an extremely steep section in the lower part. It is still unclear whether spectators will be allowed on the track. The Downhill World Cup was originally scheduled to kick off in Fort William on 22/23 May 2021. The race in Scotland has now been postponed as the hygiene requirements cannot be met, according to the organisers.
