Trek Rail 9 GX Gen 2

Trek’s 2022 “Rail 9 GX Gen 2” model offers an impressive combination of advanced technology and robust design for a price of 7,399 EUR. The frame is made from Alpha Platinum Aluminium and features a removable integrated battery (RIB), a tapered head tube, internal Control Freak cable routing, a magnesium shift lever and Motor Armor. The frame is also equipped with Mino Link, ABP and a Boost148 12 mm thru-axle, and offers 150 mm of suspension travel. The maximum permissible weight is 136 kg, whilst the bike itself weighs 23 kg.

Braking performance is provided by SRAM Code R 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes at both the front and rear. The disc brakes are fitted with SRAM Centerline and have rounded edges; the front brake disc has a diameter of 200 mm and the rear one 180 mm. The shifter is a 12-speed SRAM GX Eagle.

The RockShox ZEB Select+ fork, featuring DebonAir suspension and Charger 2.1 RC damping, is optimised for e-MTBs and offers 160 mm of travel. It features a tapered crown, a 44 mm offset and a Boost110 15 mm Maxle Stealth axle.

The bike is fitted with VP-536 nylon platform pedals and a SRAM X1 1000 crankset, comprising a 34-tooth chainring and 165 mm-long cranks. The cassette is a SRAM Eagle XG-1275 with a 10–52-tooth range.

The Rail 9 GX Gen 2’s handlebars are Bontrager Line aluminium bars, measuring 35 mm in diameter and 780 mm in width, with a rise of 27.5 mm. The grips are Bontrager XR Trail Elite with nylon clamps. The stem is a Bontrager Elite, 45 mm long with a 0-degree angle.

The tyres are Bontrager SE5 Team Issue in size 29 x 2.50, fitted to Bontrager Line Comp 30 wheelsets, which are tubeless-ready and feature a 6-hole disc mount and a Boost110 15 mm thru-axle. The saddle is a Bontrager Arvada with CrMo tubular rails and a width of 138 mm, whilst the seatpost is a Bontrager Line Elite Dropper with 100 mm of travel, MaxFlow and internal cable routing.

The bike is powered by a Bosch Performance CX motor with a magnesium housing, delivering 250 watts of power and 85 Nm of torque. The motor provides assistance up to a maximum speed of 25 km/h. The battery is a Bosch PowerTube with a capacity of 625 Wh. The display is a Bosch Kiox, and the charger is a standard Bosch charger with an output of 4A (220–240 V).

The bike’s geometry comprises a reach of 42 mm, a stack of 63 mm, a seat tube length of 41 mm, a top tube length of 59 mm, a head tube angle of 64 degrees, a seat tube angle of 68 degrees, a head tube length of 10 mm, a chainstay length of 45 mm, a standover height of 74 mm and a wheelbase of 120 mm.
