Hercules Spyder 21

The Hercules “Spyder 21” model from 2023 offers solid and versatile features for a price of 649 EUR. The frame is made from MTB Series aluminium (AL 6061), which gives the bike a robust yet lightweight structure. Weighing 17 kg and with a maximum load capacity of 115 kg, the bike is suitable for both everyday use and sporty rides.

The Spyder 21’s braking system consists of Tektro V-brakes on both wheels, operated by Shimano ST-EF41 brake levers, ensuring reliable braking performance. The gear system features a Shimano TX800 with 21 speeds, controlled via EZ-Fire shifters, whilst the front derailleur is a SHIMANO FD-TY500. This combination enables precise and smooth gear changes, which prove their worth both in city traffic and on more challenging routes.

The bike’s suspension is provided by SR Suntour forks. The 26-inch model features the SR Suntour XCE-28P fork with 80 mm of travel, whilst the 24-inch version is fitted with an SR Suntour M-3010-P fork and 50 mm of travel. This suspension ensures comfort and control on uneven trails.

Other features include LED lights from AXA, comprising the AXA Eco Line front light, which offers up to 15 lux of brightness, and the AXA Slim Steady rear light with a parking light function. The pedals are VP VPE-993 models and the drivetrain uses a KMC Z7 chain. The handlebars are Trekking AL with a slight 5° backsweep and a 25 mm rise, complemented by Velo MTB grips for optimum grip.

The bike is also fitted with an adjustable A-Head stem, a semi-integrated headset and DBM-1 rims. The tyres vary depending on size: the 26-inch version uses Kenda K-1168 tyres, whilst the 24-inch version is fitted with Kenda K-1166 tyres. The front hub is a Shimano DH-C3000-3 hub dynamo and the rear hub is a Formula OV-31RQR.

The saddle is a youth ATB model, mounted on a Kalloy SP-242 seatpost. Mudguards from SKS Velo Mountain provide protection against dirt and water. A Standwell centre-mount kickstand provides stability when parking the bike, whilst a steel V-type luggage rack with a spring-loaded flap offers additional storage space. Overall, the Hercules Spyder 21 is a well-equipped bike suitable for a variety of uses.
