The Rowdy Set 2.0 is aimed at young mountain bikers, schoolchildren and all kids who cycle in their free time. SKS manufactures the mudguards in Germany and bases their design on the Mudrocker models, which have already impressed us in our tests. The high-performance plastic construction is designed to protect against mud and water.
The Multi-Adjust design adapts to various children’s bike frames. The front mudguard features a split design for flexible fitting. The package includes various screws and washers to attach the mudguard to both the fork crown and the steerer tube. An adjustable mounting system is used on the rear wheel. Two spacer sleeves for different seatpost diameters are included. The mudguards are suitable for wheel sizes from 20 to 24 inches.
The rechargeable USB rear light can be slid into a designated guide without the need for tools. The Rowdy Rearlight locks into place there and is designed to ensure visibility in the dark. It is designed to be particularly easy to use, even for children. An easily accessible button on the top activates the light. As stipulated by the StVZO in Germany, there is only a steady light. On or off – it’s that simple, that straightforward.
I think the mudguard is brilliant. It looks really stylish, especially with the built-in rear light – says our 8-year-old test rider, Hannes.
The rear mudguard is quick to fit. All you need is a size 3 Allen key and the correct spacer sleeve for the seat post. Two additional joints allow the Rowdy to be perfectly aligned with the rear tyre. Fitting the two-piece front mudguard is a little trickier. First, you need to work out the correct way to fit it. The instructions aren’t much help here. A few minutes later, however, the Rowdy is fitted to the fork and aligned. The mounting brackets can be bent by hand to suit the tyre diameter.
The rear light simply slides into the corresponding recess on the rear mudguard. Operating it via the small button is child’s play, and after a brief demonstration, the kids can even remove it themselves to charge it via USB. On our 24-inch test bike, the SKS Rowdy Set 2.0 provides reliable protection against splash water – only the feet might get a bit wet, but this is also the case with other mudguards due to their design.
