Cannondale Scalpel Carbon 4

The 2024 Cannondale Scalpel Carbon 4 is a highly sophisticated mountain bike designed for demanding cross-country riders. Priced at 3,999 EUR, it offers an impressive combination of advanced technology and high-quality components.

The Scalpel Carbon 4’s frame is made of carbon and features 100 mm of suspension travel. Proportional Response Tuned technology and FlexPivot chainstays ensure optimum suspension performance and a smooth ride. The frame is fitted with a PF30-83 bottom bracket, a tapered head tube and a Speed Release 12 mm thru-axle.

Braking performance is provided by Shimano Deore 6100 hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm RT54 rotors at the front and rear. The brake levers are also from Shimano Deore, ensuring reliable and precise braking control. The drivetrain is provided by Shimano XT, whilst the shift levers are from the Deore M6100 series. The bike has a total of 12 gears, offering a wide range of gear ratios.

The front suspension is provided by a Fox Float Performance 32 SC fork with 100 mm of travel, a 15x110 mm thru-axle and a tapered steerer tube. The fork has an offset of 51 mm and is remotely adjustable. The rear shock is a Fox Float DPS Performance Elite EVOL with remote lockout and adjustable rebound, also offering 100 mm of travel.

The bottom bracket is a Cannondale Alloy PressFit30, whilst the crankset consists of a Cannondale 1 BB30a and is fitted with a 32-tooth OPI SpideRing with Ai-Offset. The cassette is a Shimano Deore M6100 with a 10–51 tooth range, allowing for precise gear selection.

The bike’s cockpit comprises a Cannondale 2 flat handlebar made from 2014 aluminium, with a width of 760 mm, a rise of 3 degrees and a backsweep of 8 degrees. The grips are Cannondale Locking Grips, and the stem is also a Cannondale 2 made from 6061 aluminium, with a length of 35 mm and an angle of 0 degrees. The headset is an integrated, sealed bearing with a tapered design.

The wheelsets consist of WTB STX i23 TCS rims with 32 spokes and are tubeless-ready. The front tyre is a Maxxis Ardent Race in size 29 x 2.2" with EXO protection and tubeless-ready, whilst the rear is a Maxxis Recon Race in the same size. The hubs are Shimano MT400 at the front and Shimano MT410 at the rear, both with thru-axles.

The saddle is a Cannondale Scoop Shallow Sport with steel rails, and the seatpost is a Cannondale 2 made from 7075 aluminium, measuring 31.6 x 400 mm.

The bike’s total weight is approximately 40 kg. The frame geometry comprises a reach of 455 mm, a stack of 601 mm, a seat tube length of 480 mm, a top tube length of 622 mm, a head tube angle of 68 degrees, a seat tube angle of 75 degrees, a head tube length of 115 mm, a chainstay length of 436 mm, a fork offset of 55 mm, a standover height of 745 mm and a wheelbase of 1175 mm.
