Lightweight stopper: new XC brake from Hope
Everything on cross-country bikes is trimmed for lightweight construction. But how light can a brake be without sacrificing braking performance and stability? The Hope XCR is designed to master the balancing act.

The noble forge Hope from England is known for its stylish CNC-milled parts. Now the Brits are launching a two-piston disc brake that is very light yet powerful.

The XCR is a two-piston brake from the CNC milling machine. This not only looks stylish, but also saves weight. The XCR weighs just 199 grams each, without disc and adapter. But it's not just the CNC-milled aluminium that makes it so light. The British have also fine-tuned the lever. It is made of carbon and is friction-optimised. This should give the rider even more feedback from the brake.

Hope emphasises simple operation and maintenance in its latest creation. Not only is a hinge on the clamp intended to simplify installation, but the conventional reservoir should also contribute to easy maintenance. Practical: The clamp should be compatible with all standard gear levers. As the XCR is only used with Hope in Barnoldswick The brakes will be manufactured on the same production lines on which they were developed, so there will only be a limited number of units and waiting times. Each brake will cost 315 euros. To the Trickstuff Piccola Carbon, at 158 grams the lightest disc brake in the worldthe new Hope brake doesn't quite come close. But we're excited to see how the new XCR performs on the BIKE brake test bench. The test will soon be available in BIKE.

The reservoir also comes from the CNC milling machine. For weight reasons, the carbon lever can only be adjusted with tools.Photo: Robin Godden The reservoir also comes from the CNC milling machine. For weight reasons, the carbon lever can only be adjusted with tools.
