With his first GPS multisport watch Wahoo has created a recording device for a wide range of athletes. Whether for triathlons or sports that complement cycling, such as running or mountaineering, Wahoo's new smartwatch is designed to ensure smooth and simplified data recording of sporting activities. It uses the technology and software already familiar from the Elemnt GPS computers Roam and Bolt.
The Wahoo developers were particularly keen to ensure that the Elemnt Rival switches smoothly between sports. The manufacturer also promises a seamless transition between sports without having to touch the watch. In so-called multisport transfer mode, the watch transfers the data it has collected so far to the Elemnt bike computer while the recording continues to run in the background. Conversely, the Rival also automatically takes over the data from the bike ride. This feature makes it particularly interesting for triathletes.
The Wahoo watch is equipped with an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the backlighting to the respective light conditions so that you can keep a perfect eye on your performance even in poor lighting conditions. Not only the athlete, but also the watch is durable. With a powerful battery, the manufacturer guarantees a 14-day runtime in watch mode and a runtime of 24 hours in GPS mode. The Elemnt Rival also has a barometric altimeter, live tracking and an optical heart rate monitor for quick recognition of stress values.
Smartwatch functions & GPS routing missing
For a clear training analysis, the performance data can be easily and conveniently transferred to external platforms such as Strava via the Wahoo Companion app. Operation and configuration should be just as quick and easy as with other Wahoo products. But compared to other Smartwatches from Garmin or Suunto, you have to do without a few things with the new watch from Wahoo: The Rival can neither play music via Bluetooth nor offer valid GPS routing on maps. Smartwatch functions such as contactless payment or the recording of sleep data are also not possible with the Wahoo watch.
