And action! Small cameras from GoPro, Insta360 or DJI are ideal for capturing action-packed moving images. Whether technical single trails in the bike park or epic gravel adventures on dirt tracks - an action camera has to withstand a lot. We tested the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro on gravel rides and bikepacking tours. The test camera came with a protective frame and a selfie stick. A magnetic mounting system allows you to quickly switch between different mounting positions, for example from the selfie stick to the chest strap or handlebar mount.

Magnet holder and quick-release system

The quick-release system holds firmly even on rough trails. But be careful! The magnetic adapter must engage correctly. The camera itself offers a mounting option on the underside. Together with the protective frame (30 grams), which enables side mounting, you can quickly switch from portrait to landscape format. This is practical if several video formats are to be created: YouTube, TikTok, Insta... The battery life of up to four hours is sufficient for most trail sessions. Even on bikepacking tours we didn't reach the limit as occasional filmers, the battery easily lasted a day. However, if you film a lot, you should take at least one spare battery with you.

Internal memory as backup

On a winter gravel tour, we didn't feel the button to switch off with thick gloves and cold fingers. We recorded 30 minutes of film from inside the jacket pocket. The battery still lasted, phew. And thanks to the internal memory of 47 gigabytes, we were able to continue filming even with a full memory card. The practical quick start function, which starts the recording by pressing the shutter button, triggers faster than the current GoPro Hero 13. One drawback: the DJI Mimo app, which is required for updates and more, is not available in the Play Store, but must be downloaded from the DJI website as an APK file. It is available in the Apple App Store.

Canyon Scampr Trail

There are already enough shoes out there, but new brands and models are constantly being added. So do we now also need shoes from a bike mail order company? From a purely functional point of view, I have to say yes, because Canyon does a lot of things right with the Scampr. The features such as the high-quality Boa fastener, Solestar insole and Vibram sole are unrivalled at this price. The fit and comfort are also excellent. The sock-like tongue and airy mesh flatter the foot. The three-lash Boa fastener works great and holds the foot and heel securely in the shoe, which improves power transmission. Canyon leaves more room for the toes, which increases comfort on long tours. Less successful is the Vibram sole, which only works well on easy, dry terrain. As soon as it gets wet and slippery, the treadless sole lacks grip - not ideal for an adventure shoe. Otherwise, however, the Scampr impressed all round.

The features and fit of the Scampr are really great for the price - as you would expect from a mail order company. However, Canyon needs to improve the sole. - Stefan Frey, BIKE test editor

Sony LinkBuds Fit

I wanted to give biking with music in my ears another chance and was surprised by the secure fit of the LinkBuds. The small anchors hold the in-ear headphones securely and comfortably. The set-up via app is annoying, with countless options. There's no plug and play here. When stationary, I like the harmonious sound - clear treble, only slightly imprecise bass. When driving, I selected the ambient noise mode, in which nature and traffic are always present - good for safety, bad for the sound. The sound is very noisy here. The Sonys sound better with noise cancellation, which isolates you well from your surroundings. The LinkBuds are IPX4 splash-proof and run for around seven hours, or almost 34 hours when used with the charging cradle. The tiny devices start automatically when removed. Their touch control is slightly overwhelming on the bike. Unfortunately not a bargain. My sound will therefore probably remain the sound of nature.

The neat Sonys sound great when stationary, and the seat is also O. K. But the more airflow there is, the more noisy the sound becomes - not my idea of a musical experience. I'd rather hear the chirping of the birds. - Stefan Frey, BIKE test editor

Stefan Frey is from Lower Bavaria and loves the mossy, loamy trails of the Bavarian Forest as much as the rugged rock of the Dolomites. For technical descents, he is prepared to tackle almost any ascent - under his own steam. As an accessories specialist, he is the first port of call for questions about equipment and add-on parts, while as head of copywriting he sweeps the language crumbs from the pages of the BIKE print editions.
