Tempo, Uhu, GoPro - the US camera manufacturer has become something of a synonym for the action cam. No matter which brand bikers put on their helmets before hitting the trail, the only thing you usually hear is: "I've got the GoPro on!" The camera gadgets have become a constant tour companion for many and new models are added regularly. With today's presentation, we have already reached version 13.
The Hero13 Black comes with a range of new features, including magnetic locking mounts, GPS and new power options. It is also compatible with the four interchangeable HB-Series lenses. The camera features automatic lens detection, which is said to select the ideal settings for different types of shots, from ultra-wide POV shots to film-ready anamorphic shots. Initial tests will show how well this automatic detection works in practice and whether it actually leads to the promised results. The HB-Series also includes a set of ND filters, which are intended to provide creative motion blur effects.
The Hero13 Black is said to offer an impressive combination of state-of-the-art technology and endless creative possibilities. In addition to 5.3K videos at 60 fps, the so-called HyperSmooth stabilisation, GoPro is promoting the Hero13 Black with a whole range of new features and functions:
The GoPro Hero13 Black costs 449.99 euros and can be pre-ordered now.
There is also the GoPro Hero13 Black Creator Edition (679.99 euros) with Volta battery grip, Media Mod and Light Mod or the Hero3 Black accessory bundles tailored to specific activities, which are only available on the manufacturer's website.
You can of course find out more about video & photo on our website. For example, how to get the perfect bike shot with your smartphone.
GoPro is also launching a range of new lenses with the new camera, which should offer a lot of creative freedom when filming. The Hero13 Black automatically recognises the lenses when they are attached and then automatically selects the optimum settings depending on the lens and environment. The four HB-Series lenses are waterproof and scratch-resistant and have a hydrophobic coating.
Lens Mod Ultrawide (€109.99): Transforms the HERO13 Black into the ultimate POV camera, capturing more of the scene in every shot thanks to the 177° field of view and new 1:1 aspect ratio.
Lens Mod Macro (139.99 euros): Expands creative possibilities with a variable focus for more distant objects and makes it possible to get up to 4x closer to a subject than with a standard GoPro lens.
Lens Mod Anamorphic (€139.99): Captures high-quality ultra-wide-angle shots in a 21:9 cinema screen format - with less distortion than conventional wide-angle perspectives
4-pack ND filter (79.99 euros): With the four neutral density or ND filters of the HB series (ND4, ND8, ND16 and ND32), you can easily create shots with film-like motion blur effects. If one of the filters is attached to the HERO13 Black, the camera automatically switches to "Cinema (Auto)" video mode and selects the optimum settings depending on the environment.
The Enduro battery with 1,900 mAh is said to offer 10% more capacity in combination with improved energy efficiency and a redesigned battery housing. This should enable the Hero13 Black to record continuously for up to 1.5 hours at extremely high resolutions such as 4K30 or 5.3K30. In HD quality with 1080p30, over 2.5 hours of recording time should be possible.
The newly introduced accessory set for the Hero13 Black, consisting of a magnetic side flap and a power cable, is available at a price of 89.99 euros. It is designed to provide a permanent power supply for the camera in all weather conditions. The cable is connected via a magnetic holder, which should ensure quick and easy connection to external power sources.
The new mount with magnetic lock (€29.99) and the ball joint mount with magnetic lock (€44.99) are the quickest way to switch between different mounts with the camera. They are compatible with all current GoPro mounts. The camera is attached using a quick double lock that simply needs to be squeezed to release the camera when the mount needs to be changed or the camera needs to be rotated 180°.
The integrated eyelets are also still available, which is the safest and most compact mounting option. In addition, the camera is equipped with a 1/4-20 thread for easy attachment to standard tripods and professional camera accessories.
The new Hero for €229.99 is said to weigh just 86 grams, making it the smallest GoPro camera with a display. It combines ultra-high 4K resolution and a simplified user interface in a robust housing and, thanks to its low price, is also ideal as an entry into the video segment.
GoPro praises the Hero as the smallest, lightest, most user-friendly and most cost-effective 4K camera with display to date. Its features:
The Hero costs 229.99 euros and can be pre-ordered now.
Both the Hero13 Black and the Hero are compatible with the Quik app. Highlight videos are automatically sent to the smartphone: When the GoPro is plugged in to charge and connected to home Wi-Fi, footage is automatically uploaded to the cloud while charging and then turned into a highlight video with matching music and effects. The videos are automatically sent to the smartphone, where they can then be shared quickly and easily.
The Quik app also offers a range of user-friendly tools with which recordings can be professionally edited. Here you can customise the highlight videos created by the app or create your own videos from scratch. The editing functions include zoom, cropping, filters, data overlays and much more.
However, GoPro owners need a subscription, Premium (49.99 euros/year) or Premium+ (99.99 euros/year), to be able to utilise all the benefits.
