A high-end race file from Specialized reduced by 50 per cent? This dream is now coming true - officially from the manufacturer. The Epic Pro LTD is now available over the counter for 4500 instead of 9000 euros. The fact that the model is a discontinued model, and not the brand new Epic 8 (review here) should be no drama in view of the price.
Parts of the range are temporarily being heavily discounted in order to boost sales together with partners. (...) Together with retailers, Specialized is taking advantage of the crucial time at the start of the season. At this stage of the season, there is naturally an increased demand for bikes and equipment. - Specialised in a press release
The fact that manufacturers are drastically reducing their bikes is not a new development. The industry is struggling with full stocks and low demand. In this article, we explain the background and provide further bargain tips.
The problem is quickly explained: during the (coronavirus) boom phase (2020/21), bike suppliers and dealers ordered many times more goods than they had previously received due to supply bottlenecks. They wanted to avoid the bottlenecks experienced during the boom. The increased orders led to increased production at manufacturers in Asia. When the delayed and, shortly afterwards, the current manufacturer's goods rolled into the sales markets, they met with demand that had already cooled off. As a result, supplier and dealer warehouses are overflowing. This is where the money is now stuck. This is called a liquidity problem. And it has already driven one or two suppliers into insolvency. - Jo Beckendorff, Wirtschaftsexerte
Another example from the current discount campaign of the popular US manufacturer Specialized: the Specialized Turbo Tero X 4.0 crossover e-MTB is also temporarily only half the original price. In our test last winter, the SUV e-bike still had a price tag of 4200 euros (to the test of the Specialized Turbo Tero X 4.0). In the next few days or weeks it will be sold for 2100 euros. Specialised has not announced how long the discount campaign will last.
These two examples are only part of the large discount campaign - all offers can be found immediately on the manufacturer's website or at retailers. Incidentally, the discounts for equipment and accessories are set to be even higher. Specialized promises discounts of up to 65 per cent. The prices are valid both at regional dealers and on the Specialized website for direct sales.
