The Rose Bonero 2 scores with high-quality equipment in this price range. In combination with the riding characteristics and the wide range of use, it was voted the test winner among trail hardtails up to 1999 euros.

The fact that Rose now also has a trail hardtail in its programme clearly shows that this bike category has made it out of its niche. As a direct mail order company, the Bocholt-based company has put together a significantly higher quality equipment package compared to the competition. In addition to the best overall weight, the Rose Bonero 2 on tour thanks to a long-travel dropper post and a Shimano Deore 12-speed drivetrain with 510 per cent gear range. Extended laps and steep climbs are only possible with a Bonero 2 trail hardtail. Almost 20 millimetres more reach and a seat angle that is around two degrees steeper than on all the other bikes in the test make the riding position on the Rose as sporty as possible. On flat trails, this is almost too much of a good thing, and the pressure on the hands can quickly become uncomfortable.

Even downhill, the length of the Rose Bonero dominates its handling characteristics. It doesn't lose its composure at high speeds. This is only due to the very stiff rear end, which transmits impacts to the rider unfiltered and quickly tires them out. A lot of effort is also required in tight bends to keep the bike in line. In order to pull the Bonero 2 over the long chainstays onto the rear wheel, a powerful impulse is required on the short, wide cockpit. The lightweight Rockshox Pike fork filters braking bumps and root carpets out of the ground with confidence and sensitivity. It offers the best damping in the test and, together with the ergonomic Shimano Deore brakes, gives the Rose a huge advantage on natural trails. The Bonero frame from Rose is protected by numerous protectors and even accommodates mudguards and pannier racks.

Test summary by Jan Timmermann, BIKE editor:

A clear equipment advantage and a detailed, modern frame secure the Rose Bonero 2 the test victory. None of the test bikes offers more riding fun in a comparably wide range of use.
